As Inauguration Day winds down, what are evangelicals saying?

John Fea   |  January 20, 2025

Evangelicals helped put him in office. Let’s see how what some of them have to say today. (We did a similar post yesterday.)

Shane Claiborne quotes MLK on MLK Day:

Albert Mohler chooses to write about Biden’s “mental abilities”:

"Day by day, more will be known about who was complicit and responsible for hiding Biden’s loss of mental abilities and about his family’s corruption. Officials will admit they knew what was going on and try to justify their silence."

And a response:

Day by day, more will be known about who was complicit and responsible for hiding abuse in the #SBC Pastors and Seminary Presidents will admit they knew what was going on and try to justify their silence.

The president of the Southern Baptist Convention loved Trump’s speech:

Such a strong inaugural address by @realDonaldTrump! Goodness!

— Clint Pressley (@pastorclint) January 20, 2025

He is praying for strength:

On this historic day, Southern Baptists join together in prayer for President @realDonaldTrump as he begins his second term. May his leadership be guided by biblical wisdom, fostering unity and justice for all. We also lift up Vice President @JDVance, asking for strength and…

— Clint Pressley (@pastorclint) January 20, 2025

This Southern Baptist gravitated toward this part of the speech:

“As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female.”

Court evangelicals regather:

A “supernatural intervention”:

Hear my prayer for President @realDonaldTrump at the pre-Inaugural dinner Sunday evening in which I cite God’s “supernatural intervention in saving President Trump from an assassin’s bullet.” 🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/nBKcVMDuDe

The director of Liberty University’s Standing for Freedom Center thinks America is back:

This epic photo of @JDVance says it all. I love it. Usha with an adoring smile, holding happy Maribel on her hip, fingers in bandages and thumb in mouth. This is our first VP of the millennial generation.

Strong 👊 😎 🇺🇸 https://t.co/xOCkPH85S4

For anyone who knows our country, it makes perfect sense. https://t.co/BaiPp2cPgc

— Ryan Helfenbein (@RHelfenbein) January 20, 2025

More on the gender line in the speech:

The biggest applause line from Capital One Arena was this “There are only two genders.” Yes, God made it that way. Gen 1:27-28 https://t.co/L3pAs8SSYu

— Ryan Helfenbein (@RHelfenbein) January 20, 2025

We don't have full details, but it's being reported that among President Trump's first actions will be to suspend refugee admissions for at least 4 months

Isaiah 43:18:

Trump was roasting Biden and his 4 years of demonic reign over America.

God’s hand of mercy:

We are witnessing God’s hand of mercy on America today.

Loving all the Christian hymns!

— Tom Buck (Five Point Buck) (@TomBuck) January 20, 2025

Buck took some time today to take a shot at MLK:

It’s quite possible to be thankful for how God, in His common grace, used MLK Jr. to bring about needed change in our country and be clear that MLK was not a true Christian.

It’s possible because it’s true! https://t.co/y9njLWJaxQ

Ed is praying for Trump:

I hope you will join me in praying for @POTUS @RealDonaldTrump and our nation.

I hope you…

BALLER. "From today forward, it will be the official policy of the United States to recognize only two genders: male and female.” https://t.co/8jkaTjIqmJ

— Owen Strachan (@ostrachan) January 20, 2025

But Trump is not Jesus:

President Trump is no savior. He needs Jesus just as I do. He is a flawed and fallible man. But I pray that God works in him, and through him, for God's glory.

Politics is not everything; it is far from the most consequential thing in this life. But neither is it inconsequential…

— Owen Strachan (@ostrachan) January 20, 2025

Franklin Graham reflects on his prayer:

I was honored to give an invocation at our nation’s 60th presidential inauguration ceremony before President @realDonaldTrump and Vice President @JDVance were sworn in today. Laurie has an interesting choice of devotional today:

Crowds lined the streets and waved palm branches because they believed they were welcoming their king. Finally, they had a Messiah who would lead a revolt against Rome. Or so they thought…

Is Tony Perkins turning some kind of a corner?:

A profound statement of truth from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Church cannot delegate its responsibility to the government. If we want America to be great again, we must become moral again. Stand on the truth of God’s word and proclaim Jesus Christ. pic.twitter.com/TryzCsEgIm

A big day for Eric:

Trump has accomplished more on Day 1 than Biden did in 4 years

— Eric Metaxas (@ericmetaxas) January 20, 2025

Friendly reminder that Joe Biden stole the presidency — and then spent four years trying to destroy America. He failed. God bless America!

— Eric Metaxas (@ericmetaxas) January 20, 2025

Why the HELL is Mark Zuckerberg there?

— Eric Metaxas (@ericmetaxas) January 20, 2025

Things are going to be set in motion at noon today that we can hardly fathom. Buckle your seatbelts, Enemies of America! It's going to be a bumpy time.

— Eric Metaxas (@ericmetaxas) January 20, 2025

In an hour we mark the disgraceful end of the political life of one of the most corrupt politicians in our history. Joe Biden was the ultimate example of what the Founders feared. His exit marks the end of a dark era — and the beginning of a Great Restoration. Praise the Lord.

— Eric Metaxas (@ericmetaxas) January 20, 2025

What's the subtext today? The Dems cheated in 2020… and enough patriots woke up so that they could not pull off the cheat in 2024… and here we are. Praise God.

— Eric Metaxas (@ericmetaxas) January 20, 2025

At noon today WE THE PEOPLE will drive a stake through the heart of Deep State Tyranny. God bless America!

In my younger years the evangelical prophets were keen to identify the AntiChrist as a contemporary person. He was never a Republican or a conservative pastor. But they were want to point out how many Christians would be deceived by him. There seems to be a living person who fits the bill very well. And it’s not Joe Biden.

And so the Trumpy nightmare begins:

    https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-administration-canceling-flights-nearly-1660-afghan-refugees-say-us-2025-01-20/

The man who sold out Afghanistan to the Taliban, now sells out the Afghan refugees.

So wonder how Mohler (who tries to act concerned about presidential mental frailties), and his Trumpy sycophants, will feel when Musk and Vance replace the clearly addled fool now occupying the White House via the 25th Amendment? Will they protest what is already so obvious — that Trumpy does not have the mental acuity to run the US? Or will they join in Trumpy’s removal and say why did no well tell us sooner?
