Tuesday was Election Day: What are evangelicals saying?

John Fea   |  November 7, 2024

Over at NBC News, Mike Hixenbaugh is covering the MAGA evangelicals who believe Trump’s victory yesterday was a fulfillment of prophecy. Here is a taste:

Lance Wallnau, a celebrity evangelist who has spent decades calling on conservative Christians to occupy positions of power and influence over society, told followers onĀ an election night livestreamĀ that Trump’s victory had been prophesied years ago — a key step in God’s plan to usher in a new era of Christian dominion around the world.

ā€œThere’s a different dialogue about spirituality happening in America,ā€ said Wallnau, who hadĀ worked to mobilizeĀ Trump voters in swing states. ā€œAnd with Donald Trump,ā€ he continued, God has ā€œgiven permission to take it right to the White House.ā€

***

Woops! Those 2020 prophecies were actually meant for 2024. Here is Julie Duin at The Roys Report:

Smelling victory, some of the charismatic Christian prophets backing presidential nominee Donald Trump are already rejoicing on social media.

ā€œI stand by every word that God gave me, see you on the other side of victory! Numbers 12:6,ā€ wrote ā€œProphetā€Ā Charlie Shamp,Ā president of Destiny Encounters International in Moravian Falls, North Carolina, on X Monday night.

Shamp was one of several dozen charismatic/Pentecostal leaders who said in the fall of 2020 that God had mandated a second term for Trump in 2021. Now, he and other ā€œprophetsā€ are amending their earlier prophecies, saying the prophecies were right, but the dates were wrong.

Shamp’s followers agree.

ā€œI believe that a lot of prophetic words given in 2020 were misapplied and were actually for 2024. (Almost like a time shift),ā€ wrote one.

***

Let’s check out what people are saying on X:

Warding off evil:

It's not so much that I'm happy Trump won—I am—but that his winning will ward off at least some of the evil that would have unarguably been wrought in this nation had Kamala won (Prov. 29:2).

Divine intervention:

.@LisaMarieBoothe SLAMS Kamala Harris’s out-of-touch closing message equating abortion to ā€œfreedom,ā€ and shares a powerful moment of Trump supporters coming together, united in Christ:

Of course Ralph Reed held a press conference. That’s what Ralph Reed does.

Lance sees a pro-Trump coalition forming:

Samuel Rodriguez: The real battle in America is between the “serpent” and the “lamb”:

Jesus has “cursed” churches that don’t do politics:

Eric affirms Charlie:

Precisely. We have great work to do. We need to keep our eyes on the Lord as we go forward. TO HIS GLORY. For HIS purposes in our generation. https://t.co/r3qxqUfCYM

People like Dinesh D’Souza and Eric Metaxas NEED election fraud to keep their brand strong:

I believe the koine Greek word for this is CHEATING. https://t.co/I7G9DmDMpr

— Eric Metaxas (@ericmetaxas) November 6, 2024

Praise the Lord!:

It's like we knew over a week ago. God knew. Praise Jesus. We don't deserve this. It is an outrageous gift from God — so let us use it to His glory! Hallelujah! AMEN. pic.twitter.com/krQAJmK9Iy

Larry Taunton is looking for revenge:

Justice is not revenge.

And it is a must in the wake of extreme criminal offenses. Without justice, you make a mockery of the law and incentivize extreme criminal offenses.

The Faucis and General Milleys and Bidens should lawyer-up. https://t.co/EHhJ7oG5Sv

Is the Trump win a precipitator of a revival? Tony thinks so:

Election 2024 must not be the finish line for Christians in America; I pray it is a starting point. It’s time for the Church to arise. Our hurting nation needs a revival that only God can provide.

— Tony Perkins (@tperkins) November 6, 2024

A “true friend of Israel”:

Why Franklin Graham is thanking God:

I thank God that @realDonaldTrump won this election! This win is historic in many ways. Millions and millions of people were praying, and I believe God heard their prayers.

Albert Mohler wants a “strong” Donald Trump:

ā€œWe need Donald Trump to be as strong as he sees himself to be and to be a statesman equal to these demanding times.

As Christians, our task is now to pray for President-elect Trump and for our nation.ā€

The “Washingtonian captivity is over.” A serial liar, sexual abuser, nativist, and felon has seized the throne!:

For years, the church has sought a seat at the table of the Beltway elites. But the days of the church's Washingtonian captivity are OVER.

In my new Substack essay, I offer seven reflections on Trump's historic win. Be encouraged, Christian!https://t.co/b4g1ronZRr pic.twitter.com/KPHYAoCDsy

— Owen Strachan (@ostrachan) November 6, 2024

A “political exorcism of his church”:

The days of "neither left nor right" are OVER.

The days of "be seen as winsome above all" are OVER.

The days of the Washingtonian captivity of the church are OVER.

God has performed a political exorcism of his church.

It's morning again in America.

We're never going back. https://t.co/rtTkdqvY9x

— Owen Strachan (@ostrachan) November 6, 2024

No more Mr. Nice Guy:

We evangelicals are not doing politics the old harmless way anymore.

We're not trying to be nice.

We're not going to be quiet.

We're not currying elites' favor.

We will stand boldly, lovingly, and unflinchingly for God's truth.

We're not going back.

We're moving forward.

— Owen Strachan (@ostrachan) November 6, 2024

Some evangelicals are not happy with John Piper:

I love John Piper. Respect him immensely. But I think he’s dead wrong here.

God just gave America a great mercy we didn’t deserve. Four more years to pray and work for reformation and revival without government interference. I praise God for it. It’s not an evil but a mercy. https://t.co/7dJcVCxPFU

— Grant R. Castleberry (@grcastleberry) November 6, 2024

I honor and respect Dr. Piper for many reasons. But you are right, Grant. Totally right.

The fact that God just acted to hold back the ferocious evil of the modern left is a mercy of nearly unprecedented magnitude. It is historic; it is epic; it is worthy of PRAISE and THANKS.

— Owen Strachan (@ostrachan) November 6, 2024

God was behind it all:

I saw someone point out that the state where Trump was shot–Pennsylvania–is the state that delivered the election for him.

WOW. This is just like our great God to do–take the worst evil and turn it to great good. All the more reason to praise Him today!

God is so good.

— Owen Strachan (@ostrachan) November 6, 2024

Denny may be right:

The election of Trump is a massive repudiation of the Left and of identity politics. In spite of the elite institutions of American life being arrayed against him—e.g., the media, college campuses, the justice department—Trump still won.

My article:https://t.co/3tSMACv9Of

— Denny Burk (@DennyBurk) November 6, 2024

Miles Smith with some snark. Andrew Walker says to ignore anti-Trump evangelicals and just be free:

And as @deaninserra said today on the pod, what you have to do is just dismiss, ignore, and move on. The labels are just an attempt to discredit and counter-signal. If you stop caring about what those individuals think (as you should), you can experience the freedom of letting… https://t.co/Tc54CJIFai

“Silos are not good for civic health, but…”:

A major takeaway: The Right (not always synonymous with "conservatism") is as powerful as it ever has been in American history.

That's not a simple measure of electoral strength; it is reflected in how large swaths of America now live indifferent to and often in spite of what…

— Andrew T. Walker (@andrewtwalk) November 6, 2024

Tom Buck sees an opportunity:

True Christians must unite together for the cause of the Gospel more now than ever. We must not squander this opportunity the Lord has given to stand for truth. And we must not turn on each other. May we lock arms together to advance what matters most – God’s Kingdom!

— Tom Buck (Five Point Buck) (@TomBuck) November 6, 2024

It looks like Sean Feucht will be part of the court evangelicals 2.0 crowd:

I am currently sitting next to the guy who saved America. This is no exaggeration.

I wish I could tell you more. Just know that God has hidden the nameless, faceless ones behind the scenes who are anointed with favor, wisdom and strategy to navigate the hour in which we live.

— Sean Feucht (@seanfeucht) November 6, 2024

“Demonic rage”:

The cheers during Kamala’s speech were louder for abortion than they were for unity, prosperity, peace, America or anything else that was spoken.

The demonic rage to slaughter the unborn was dealt a serious blow last night!

TIME TO FINISH THIS THING OFF IN AMERICA!…

— Sean Feucht (@seanfeucht) November 6, 2024

Sean is praying for us:

To the all the pastors, naysayers, slanderers, progressive Christians working to intimidate and distract by labeling us ā€œtoo politicalā€ or ā€œChristian Nationalistsā€ā€¦

I pray God opens your eyes revealing how significant the prayers & activism of the saints were in this victory!

— Sean Feucht (@seanfeucht) November 6, 2024

Obama as a demon:

This marks the end of your divisive and demonic influence in American politics āœŒšŸ¼ https://t.co/ZgHgHcGVkl

Matthew Soerens and World Relief will push Trump to protect migrants:

"We’ll be doing all we can to encourage President-elect Trump, who has positioned himself as a defender of Christians against persecution, to ensure that the US remains a refuge for those fleeing persecution on account of their faith…"

I spoke with @RNS https://t.co/5oHzGjxmfJ

If I remember right, Billy Graham was sometimes criticized for his close relationships to presidents. I guess now it is ok for all these “prophets” to chummy up to Trump and sell their souls to him.
