Election Day is 56 days away. What are evangelicals saying?

John Fea   |  September 9, 2024

Let’s check in on the current state of evangelicals and politics:

National Public radio is talking about “Evangelicals for Harris.”

Ralph Reed remains all in:

President Donald Trump is a proven defender of life.

Faith & Freedom Coalition Founder and Chairman @RalphReed issues a warning to conservative Christians on the choice this November: “This is about the sanctity of life.”

So is Reed’s Faith & Freedom Coalition:

A glimpse into the Latino evangelicals who attend Samuel Rodriguez’s megachurch.

John Inazu on evangelicals in a diverse democracy.

Evangelicals weigh-in on Trump and his abortion flip-flops. And here. And here.

CBS News discovers Lance Wallnau.

Speaking of Lance:

A Harris Presidency will censor your freedom of speech. She wants X punished if it doesn’t come under Government control. She pushed for Trump to be de-platformed. She believes Government should regulate speech. How’s that gonna work for X, Rumble and you? https://t.co/CmzOFFUcWo

Jenna Ellis on Tuesday night’s debate:

I would be amazed if it went fairly. Tapper and Bash were part of the plan to remove Biden. https://t.co/YklNye5vaD

Australians try to figure out why Christians support Trump

Jim Wallis on what divides us.

Eric Metaxas celebrates Dershowitz leaving the Democratic Party:

The Democratic party we once knew is dead, hijacked by Marxist maniacs. But the RINO GOP party we knew is also dead, THANK GOD. Americans now have a clear choice between common sense patriotism and suicidal lunacy & tyranny. IT'S TIME TO CHOOSE. #MAGA https://t.co/UjhbCBTxwI

Metaxas and Beck getting ready to claim election fraud if Trump loses:

.@BretWeinstein makes an ominous prediction for November: “I think the Blue Team will NOT win the election. I believe they will be defeated both in the popular vote and the electoral count.”

“But it WON’T BE REPORTED that way.”

Some evangelicals have issued a “Confession of Evangelical Conviction.” It looks like the Bebbington Quadrilateral is still alive!

Robert Jeffress also has election advice:

The Bible may not tell us exactly who to vote for, but it tells us the qualities of a godly leader and gives us wisdom to know how we should vote. The National Religious Broadcasters want to use pulpits and other tax-exempt organizations to endorse candidates.

We may be in a Bonhoeffer moment, but not in the way Tony Perkins understands it:

Dietrich Bonhoeffer once said: “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil. God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.”

My thoughts on our responsibility to pray, vote, and stand.

Jack Hibbs does not want evangelicals to vote for a “death cult.”

He also has some voting advice:

Believer, who should you vote for? What should we consider? pic.twitter.com/LybSMGr9fn

Not the donkey or the elephant:

“Our hope is not in the donkey of the Democrats or the elephant of the Republicans… our hope is in the Lamb of God. And the Lamb never fails.”

Justin Giboney on the need to persuade:

Our approach to advocacy is often counterproductive. Being persuasive takes more time and thought than being abrasive.

Yes, we must call out evil, but rarely is the the issue simply good vs. evil. That’s a lazy analysis.

FYI, the “Bonhoeffer quote” that Tony Perkins cited is spurious. It does not appear in any of Bonhoeffer’s works. https://wthrockmorton.com/2016/08/25/the-popular-bonhoeffer-quote-that-isnt-in-bonhoeffers-works/

Maybe, the “Evangels” should stop all the advice and posts entirely. The-Evangel Christian- community

are not voting for a -Pope, Priest, Pastor or Spiritual Leader. WE are voting for a Person and their Policy

    Ideology.
If anyone who votes, doesn’t evaluate the policies T and H brought while in office, then you are

    BLIND and beyond advice, anyway.

    H. will continue to be H. no matter how much she tries to put a -New Coat of Paint, on it. WhieWash is only a Facade.
