At least one Southern Baptist congregation might leave the denomination after Albert Moher’s recent opinion piece on the Trump felony conviction:

Earlier this week I said a few things about Albert Mohler essay on Donald Trump’s 34 felony convictions. You may recall his piece–it is the one in which Mohler, the president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, calls Joe Biden a “half-lucid geriatric” and seems to suggest that Trump sleeping with a porn star shows that he doesn’t “confuse male and female.”

Yesterday Dwight McKissic, the pastor of Cornerstone Church in Arlington, Texas, shared a text message he received from another Southern Baptist pastor:

I was given permission to share this post. Periodically, I get questions from pastors, church leaders, the media, critics, & friends, regarding Cornerstone Church Arlington, affiliation, or non affiliation with the SBC. I plan to address this question following Indy. Stay tuned. pic.twitter.com/BC61sZicHN

The entire tweet reads:

Hi Pastor McKissic. Would it be possible for you to point me to a statement explaining why Cornerstone has remained in the SBC? I am asking this confidentially because I am considering proposing at my church’s next business meeting that we leave the SBC in light of Al Mohler’s most recent recording of The Briefing where he strongly denounced the conviction of the former President and in light of the influence he has on the leadership of this convention and in light of this convention’s embrace of politics and Christian nationalism while overreacting to the issue of women pastors all in the backdrop of egregious sin in its handling of sexual abuse scandals and racial bigotry.

One would think that Mohler is an intelligent person. If so, how can he support Trump?
