The old court evangelicals were mostly silent on the third anniversary of January 6th

John Fea   |  January 8, 2024

Saturday was the third anniversary of the January 6th insurrection on the U.S. Capitol. We continue to deal with the fallout of this dark moment in American history. Next month the Supreme Court may decide if Trump was an insurrectionist and whether he gets to stay on the ballot in Colorado (and presumably other states.) On Friday, Joe Biden opened his campaign with a Valley Forge-area speech reminding us of what happened on January 6th. Meanwhile, in Iowa, Trump was using the term “hostages” to describe those in prison for their role in the insurrection (see below).

Everyone was talking about January 6th this weekend, accept most of the old court evangelicals:

Samuel Rodriguez: NOTHING

Jim Garlow: NOTHING

Robert Jeffress: NOTHING

Ralph Reed: NOTHING

Johnnie Moore: NOTHING

Gary Bauer: NOTHING

Tony Perkins: NOTHING

Greg Laurie: NOTHING

Jack Graham: NOTHING

Jentezen Franklin: NOTHING

Paula White: NOTHING

James Dobson: NOTHING

James Robison: NOTHING

Franklin Graham: NOTHING

Eric Metaxas DID have some commentary:

1/2 Please share! https://t.co/JslkPbiiyA

A friend writes:

"Points throughout the video show the President asking for law and order, peace, and respect for the police. The Left tries to manipulateĀ his statement (that "the crowd will be going to the Capitol") — watch 6:06 -… https://t.co/nsL9iokp9Z

https://t.co/JslkPbiiyA
THIS VIDEO CLARIFIES ONE THING: TRUMP IS GUILTY OF NOTHING.

Today is the anniversary of Januray 6th. That is, January 6th 1941 when FDR, in his State of the Union address to Congress, gave what is known as the "Four Freedoms" speech: Freedom of speech…

— Eric Metaxas (@ericmetaxas) January 6, 2024

If you read one thing today, on the 3rd anniversary of the day our own Nazi elites burned the Reichstag, read THIS by John Zmirak. And try to believe how exactly right he got it TWO DAYS after it actually happened. That is the most amazing thing to me. https://t.co/P7B99Uz3dt

— Eric Metaxas (@ericmetaxas) January 6, 2024

What happened on J6 was diabolically orchestrated by those who despise "We the People" and American liberty. Because they have no principles except gaining power for themselves, they will lose what power they have. God will see to it. https://t.co/TDfE58wWCp

— Eric Metaxas (@ericmetaxas) January 6, 2024

While Metaxas was spewing conspiracy theories, here are some of the things the other old court evangelicals WERE talking about this weekend. I understand that many of these men and women are members of the clergy and they need to prepare for Sunday services. But that did not prevent them from using their platforms to talk about other moral and political issues.

Gary Bauer:

Tony Perkins:

How can Americans fight against tyranny?

At the ballot box.

— Tony Perkins (@tperkins) January 6, 2024

Virtue signaling at its finest.

When it comes down to reality, the self-proclaimed sanctuary cities do not want the people they claim to accept. Adam’s response is like the manager of a homeless shelter getting angry when the homeless show up.

— Tony Perkins (@tperkins) January 6, 2024

This is truly alarming. Two armed men who reportedly did not identify themselves as law enforcement chased Harrison Floyd while he was carrying his 2-year-old daughter. Floyd called 911. The FBI agents were delivering a SECRET subpoena for Jack Smith’s investigation. Floyd was… pic.twitter.com/edHFDVeVo5

— Tony Perkins (@tperkins) January 6, 2024

We need pastors of courage and conviction faithfully declaring and defending God’s truth. The church should not be swimming in the water downstream from culture or we’re all going to end up like Chris Christie: adrift.https://t.co/IGfyjdyJzs

— Tony Perkins (@tperkins) January 5, 2024

God made Trump… #2024 pic.twitter.com/SjYdkS44E6

— Paula White-Cain (@Paula_White) January 5, 2024

Jack Graham:

This young man is so impressive! https://t.co/xjS8O3BIwf

— Jack Graham (@jackngraham) January 7, 2024

I will bless the Lord at all times
His praise will continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord; the humble will hear it and be glad. Oh Magnify the Lord with me; Come let us exalt His Name together Ps 34:1-3

— Jack Graham (@jackngraham) January 6, 2024

And Graham reposted this:

I’ve received a remarkable number of gracious compliments on @jaredkushner's recent in-depth discussion with @lexfridman.

I personally love this clip as it reveals the determined optimist who firmly believes that there's always a solution if you're willing to try enough paths.… pic.twitter.com/ge8xt6edqR

— Ivanka Trump (@IvankaTrump) January 7, 2024

Jentezen Franklin:

This is your year of breakthrough! Start it off right and join us for church tomorrow. I’ll be kicking off our annual fast with a message and we are expecting a powerful day at all of our @freechapel campuses. pic.twitter.com/RBQtM6oD8w

— Jentezen Franklin (@Jentezen) January 6, 2024

James Robison:

Christ’s body has been more mutilated since the Crucifixion than during it. You see, we—the church—are His body, and the church is so disfigured that people have a hard time seeing Jesus. May we seek to be a true revelation of Him.

— James Robison (@revjamesrobison) January 6, 2024

Franklin Graham:

Eight years ago today, we kicked off the Decision America Tour on the steps of the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines. Thousands came out on a brutally cold morning to hear the Gospel and to #PRAY for our nation. As we look ahead to a full schedule of evangelistic events with the… pic.twitter.com/QUBr1GVxKI

— Franklin Graham (@Franklin_Graham) January 5, 2024

Do you want to know what the leading cause of death in the world was in 2023? Abortion. More than 44.6 million lives were ended by abortion. In comparison, cancer killed 8.2 million worldwide.

— Franklin Graham (@Franklin_Graham) January 6, 2024

Graham also reposted this:

God’s straight truth is mightier than the devil’s crooked lies.

— Skip Heitzig (@skipheitzig) January 6, 2024

Meanwhile, Donald Trump is on the campaign trail in Iowa doing this:

Trump: Release the J6 hostages Joe. Release them Joe šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„pic.twitter.com/PGPY2KCJOQ

— Freedom šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øšŸ¦… (@PU28453638) January 7, 2024

And this (John McCain cannot lift his arm):

Donald Trump is still hashing out old grievances with DECEASED John McCain.

Hopefully his campaign will be dead soon after @RonDeSantis beats him in Iowa.

pic.twitter.com/YlHVoWvuAt

— Cryptid Politics (pro-DeSantis) šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øšŸŠ (@CryptidPolitics) January 7, 2024

And this:

Trump on The Civil War: I’m so attracted to seeing it. There was something that could’ve been negotiated… Abraham Lincoln, if he negotiated it, we wouldn’t know who Lincoln was. He wouldn’t have been the Abraham Lincoln. But that would’ve been ok. pic.twitter.com/RbmnXCvypI

— Acyn (@Acyn) January 6, 2024

And this:

Trump responds to Biden’s speech by claiming that Biden stuttered through it. He then does his impression of people who stutter pic.twitter.com/DwZo4SITHA

— Acyn (@Acyn) January 5, 2024

No commentary yet from the old court evangelicals on Trump’s comments this weekend, but Mike Huckabee was heading to Iowa (the trip got canceled due to snow):

Sarah (the fine new Gov of AR) & I are headed to Iowa Monday to campaign for @realDonaldTrump ahead of caucuses. I hope you can make it to one of these events:https://t.co/fYgT7HXteOhttps://t.co/l9fQB9S0BA

Invaluable work again, John. Who wrote and narrated that God is Trump bilge? That’s demonic blasphemy.
