This pastor won’t let his wife read unless he approves of her reading material

John Fea   |  July 12, 2023

I’ve heard about this kind of extreme complementarianism, but I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed it quite like this. Joel Webbon of Right Response Ministries appears to embrace some mix of Seven Mountain Dominionism, theonomism, and Christian Recontructionism. He is also the pastor of Covenent Bible Church.

In this video he attacks yoga pants on women, the Gospel Coalition, mask-wearing, and a bunch of other stuff:

ADDENDUM (8:45pm): Apparently this guy does not consider himself a complementarian:

Such an interesting (and appalling) cultural moment we’re in. I watched this video right after reading another article in The Washington Post about book bans. It strikes me how alike the mindsets of this pastor and of book banners are. They recognize the power of reading and storytelling, but want to take that power away from others to maintain their supremacy.

Yes–I thought about book bans as well, Melanie. This is wild stuff!
