What is happening in Evangelical land?
We spent the weekend covering the Christian Right “Road to Majority” conference. Read our posts here.
This weekend The Way of Improvement Leads Home podcast dropped Episode 113. Historian Larry Eskridge joins us to talk about the Jesus People and the “Jesus Revolution” movie.
Justin Giboney brings the fire:
Dan Fuller, Bill Bright, and Ralph Winter: Princeton dropouts.
Shane on the overturning of Roe:
Did Southern Baptists leave New Orleans unified?
Gen Z evangelicals gather to talk about LGBTQ issues.
Beth Moore with a message to Southern Baptist women:
Blast from the past:
Al Mohler reflects on the Southern Baptist annual meeting last week.
There were fireworks for God and country Sunday at First Baptist-Dallas:
Members of the Christian Right, led by Trump journalist David Brody, talk about “media bias.” Brody starts the session with a shot at Chris Christie for criticizing Trump earlier in the conference.
Disgraced Trump “election fraud” lawyer Jenna Ellis seems to be leaning toward DeSantis in 2024:
The director of Liberty University’s Standing for Freedom Center on the 1-year anniversary of Dobbs:
Ryan gets a pat on the back from Trump court evangelical Jack Graham:
Not sure what Ryan meant here:
Every major GOP candidate was in Washington D.C. this weekend for the Road to Majority 2023 conference. Culture warrior Charlie Kirk did not offer a single tweet about the event. Perhaps it was because Ralph Reed did not invite him to speak at the event?
David Brody was “in the room”:
A praise and worship session broke out in the lobby of the Washington Hilton on Friday night. The Hilton was hosting the Road to Majority Conference. It sounds like they were singing a song by CCM artist Steve Green:
Jack Hibbs continues his crusade to quote as many Bible verses as possible about pride. His goal is to show that God opposes Pride Month. This is ironic coming from a guy who never met a video camera he didn’t like:
Paula White spoke at the Road to Majority event:
Mike Huckabee, who supports a serial liar and narcissist for president, tweets about Adam Schiff:
Gender, sexuality, and sexual abuse in the Presbyterian Church in America.
Funny:
From the article: ‘Youth Bring their Questions on Transgender Identity to Church’
‘Northview Church in Carmel, Indiana, holds a biblically orthodox view on gender and sexuality, and high school pastor Jude Wright knows how sensitive the topic can be.’
Of course, that’s like having a “biblically orthodox view” of ‘race’ that people like Dr. L. Nelson Bell, a main founder of Christianity Today, claimed to have had.
They’re reading Modern Era social constructs that didn’t exist in ancient times into the Bible in order to religiously legitimate a cozy status quo that privileges themselves at the expense of “the other.”
That’s not to say that there weren’t people with same gender relationship orientations and such in ancient times…they just had different social constructs in those very different times that don’t really make all that much sense anymore, unless you pretend that they do and refuse to believe otherwise.
