Check out Marsden’s interview with Brian Kaylor at Word & Way:
Marsden continues to affirm his view that a “fundamentalist” is a “militant evangelical.” This raises an interesting question. Is an evangelical who is a culture warrior a “fundamentalism?”
Based on Marsden’s definition, most evangelicals engaged in a fight to save Christian civilization or who attack those who do not uphold their views on, for example, the role of women in the church and home, the nature of biblical authority (inerrancy), or systemic racism, are fundamentalists. For example, much of the Southern Baptist Convention (at least the Al Mohler-Southern Baptist Theological Seminary wing and Founders Ministries wing) is fundamentalist. Liberty University is fundamentalist. Pro-Trump pastors such as Jack Hibbs, Robert Jeffress, and Franklin Graham are fundamentalists. As Marsden notes, fundamentalism is not only marked by correct doctrine, but by political views.
Let’s face it. What you are doing here is helping to compile an “Enemies List” even while you deny doing so. I suspect that in the future, you also will endorse the government going after those hated fundys using the same tools that Justin Trudeau’s regime is using in Canada to go after the truckers and anyone who had the temerity to contribut money to them. Of course, you will claim that you are endorse the salvation of democracy, since everyone knows that Trudeau is employing what only can be a dictatorial weapon in the name of “saving democracy,” and people like you agree with him.
Let’s not kid ourselves. When future progressive regimes in this country crack down on those you call fundamentalists in the name of “saving democracy,” you and others like you will be the biggest cheerleaders.
