I took a week off from blogging. What is happening on the evangelicals and politics front?

John Fea   |  March 15, 2025

I took the last week off to write. (More on that later). What happened in the world of evangelicals and politics while I was gone? Let’s check in:

Jenna Ellis offers another “lesson” in the politics of human dignity:

Complete and total loser. https://t.co/fs56RqniUF

— Jenna Ellis 🐊 (@realJennaEllis) March 15, 2025

Jenna, the “servant of Jesus Christ” (as her X bio says) loves to revel in the pain of others:

The Biden family is a wreck. https://t.co/M4f7tTmF7U

— Jenna Ellis 🐊 (@realJennaEllis) March 15, 2025

Eric is going after Francis Collins:

This is as shocking as it gets. Please read and share. https://t.co/PoiPTTPMsW

— Eric Metaxas (@ericmetaxas) March 8, 2025

Eric is not the only one who is not happy with Francis:

It’s hard to think how much lower Francis Collins could tank his reputation as a Christian intellectual and scientist, but performing cringe theater for the Resistance accomplishes it. https://t.co/gszp9EPHxe

— Andrew T. Walker (@andrewtwalk) March 7, 2025

Another Metaxas target: Gavin Newsom:

If you're unsure whether Gavin Newsom hates families and parents — and children — just read what he signed into law. THIS is what the radical left is willing to do. You must stand against this — or you are complicit with it. Silence in the face of evil is itself evil. https://t.co/AWKf8QdVvn

— Eric Metaxas (@ericmetaxas) March 13, 2025

And let’s not forget Ben & Jerry:

If you weren't already boycotting BEN&JERRY, now is the time. https://t.co/JAIJTpSRfn

— Eric Metaxas (@ericmetaxas) March 12, 2025

There is an old episode of Veggie Tales called “The Rumor Weed.” I don’t think Jenna saw it:

Michelle has not been a fan of Barack in nearly a decade. https://t.co/DFPfxdupnL

— Jenna Ellis 🐊 (@realJennaEllis) March 14, 2025

Jack Hibbs has a “plan” on immigration. As he frames his plan he suggests that some Calvary Chapel pastors are not “born-again” or are “going to heaven.” His thesis: “Love your neighbor” has nothing to do with illegal aliens. This one gets really wild:

Some more thoughts on immigration:

We are not obligated under the U.S. Constitution to welcome people onto our shores who want to literally destroy America.

— toddstarnes (@toddstarnes) March 13, 2025

And even more thoughts on immigration:

Thank you President Trump for securing our border and protecting US sovereignty. Legal immigration only https://t.co/9JodGalB1B

— Jack Graham (@jackngraham) March 10, 2025

The Trump administration has a view:

Too many Marxists wear Christianity like a cheap skin suit. I have a fence around my backyard and I lock my front door. Guess what! Churches have fences and locked doors too. All nations have borders and boundaries. Christian love demands wise protection. pic.twitter.com/JfnNi78w2q

— Ryan Helfenbein (@RHelfenbein) March 15, 2025

Another way to think about immigration:

Three in four evangelicals support pathways toward citizenship for immigrants.

But ICE detentions, court backlogs, and a growing lawyer shortage can make it feel impossible.https://t.co/15iRglRo0M

— Christianity Today (@CTmagazine) March 15, 2025

And this, from the VP of World Relief:

This video is hard to watch

A child, apparently recording as his parents, who are lawfully present in the country with valid Temporary Protected Status, have not been convicted of any offense nor charged with any sort of violent crime, are taken from him & his younger sibling https://t.co/uJ9M3F36Vq

— Matthew Soerens (@MatthewSoerens) March 16, 2025

"Currently, with the stoppage of both the asylum process and the refugee resettlement program, Christians no longer have the option of a safe place in the United States."

A harsh truth that too few Christians seem to realize. Grateful to Ryan Brown & @OpenDoors for speaking out https://t.co/OWWk5sViRB

— Matthew Soerens (@MatthewSoerens) March 13, 2025

This morning, @WorldRelief received our first reimbursement of funds from USAID since December https://t.co/1YSnYCXII9

Please keep praying, keep advocating, keep giving https://t.co/MJS0IKoZ6O

Some Christian Right leaders met with Bibi. In this pic I see Tony Perkins, Ralph Reed, and Lance Wallnau:

It was great to visit last week in Jerusalem w/ Prime Minister Bibi @Netanyahu to discuss how we can support Israel at this critical juncture in its war with Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorist proxies of Iran. We stand with Israel. pic.twitter.com/bTmWQLJUcq

— Ralph Reed (@ralphreed) March 12, 2025

I don’t think Tony Perkins favors a two-state solution:

The United States should support Israel's rightful claim to sovereignty over Judea and Samaria, the historical land of the Jewish people.

Here's why. pic.twitter.com/RpvJXv6xCw

— Tony Perkins (@tperkins) March 8, 2025

Ralph agrees:

I agree. Israeli sovereignty over Judea & Samaria is imperative after October 7. https://t.co/dMOQuYtlBJ

— Ralph Reed (@ralphreed) March 8, 2025

Lance learned some things:

What I Learned After Meeting with Netanyahu – The Truth You Won’t Hear in the News pic.twitter.com/RkBo0hK235

— Lance Wallnau (@lancewallnau) March 13, 2025

Bibi apparently gave some inside info to Lance:

War’s raging on all fronts, and Netanyahu dropped a bombshell to me and the crew—Israel might be the last safe spot for Syria’s Christians! Watch this wild twist you won’t hear in America! pic.twitter.com/lSTEZ5xykl

— Lance Wallnau (@lancewallnau) March 12, 2025

Isn’t it true that Lance Wallnau is a “right wing radical?” Why does he reject this label?”:

I went to Harvard expecting a protest, but I ended up at the pub with atheists, witches, and even a guy who thought I wanted to stone him! The media painted me as some right-wing radical, but when people meet the REAL you, it freaks the devil out! We don’t hate people—we love
 pic.twitter.com/AJK1mUWcv1

— Lance Wallnau (@lancewallnau) March 15, 2025

“It’s not that bad”:

It’s not that bad. There’s been 20 shut downs since 1976. It’s Non-essential services. National parks closing, federal employees being sent home, or delayed passport processing. Essential stuff—like military operations, air traffic control, Social Security payments—keeps going, https://t.co/erNyprCxJZ

Albert Mohler on Christian nationalism: ” I refuse to run from the field when the left cries “Christian nationalist.” I do not embrace the term, but I won’t surrender at the threat of it. Press on.” More here:

"Am I a Christian nationalist? Frankly, it’s a term I do not choose for myself.

Nevertheless, it’s used as an epithet intended to sweep the public square and the making of public policy clear of all conservative Christians."

— Albert Mohler (@albertmohler) March 14, 2025

Mohler’s is a modern day Federalist. His vision of “ordered liberty” is Hamiltonian. He writes as if a Jeffersonian tradition never existed in the United States:

"The foundations that gave birth to the American project of ordered liberty were grounded in Christianity. Frankly, there was no alternative."

From my article @wngdotorg today, "They are going to call us Christian nationalists." Link below.https://t.co/M0yKm0LEBP

When you have massive social media followings, reasoned historical arguments aren’t necessary. You just announce it:

Jew hate and pugilism?:

Great article from @andrewtwalk:

“Christian Nationalism believed it would offer supporters a grand political strategy. Instead, it descended into fixations on race, Jew hate, and pugilism. It's not too late to abandon it.”https://t.co/OF2YCPOAM2

Many Americans don’t realize what a big deal this is
especially to the Christians, Kurds and the countless thousands across Iraq who were murdered, tortured and had their lives & homes destroyed by this evil.

The government’s job:

It is the job of the government to kill evildoers. You can celebrate when a brutal terrorist is justly killed.

Former Southern Baptist president Jack Graham retweeted this:

After a 6 week review we are officially cancelling 83% of the programs at USAID.

The 5200 contracts that are now cancelled spent tens of billions of dollars in ways that did not serve, (and in some cases even harmed), the core national interests of the United States.

And other views on government aid:

We've appealed to our government to quickly restore "lifesaving" humanitarian funding

Some asked if this was hyperbole@NickKristof went to South Sudan, one of the countries where @WorldRelief's USAID funds were halted, to begin the count of lives lost https://t.co/7ZwT74v5Sw

@WorldRelief joined other Christian organizations at A Prayer Vigil for Foreign Aid on #CapitolHill. The vigil, hosted by Bread for the World & the Accord Network, was held to pray & urge the administration & Congress to protect life-saving aid.

Zomi Christian refugees have been waiting for years to be resettled in the U.S. after fleeing persecution for their faith. But recent cuts in U.S. refugee programs and humanitarian aid threaten their future.

The refugees who were shackled and flown to Panama on military planes as a part of a Trump media stunt have been released from the jungle camp where they were held for weeks, but have no money or ability to return home.https://t.co/wYIoito99B

— Phil Vischer (@philvischer) March 10, 2025

"We need to use that money to help Americans, not Africans."

Apparently not, as Trump has also cut funding for programs that buy fresh produce from local farmers for distribution through food pantries serving poor rural Americans.https://t.co/L5YYSqnjB9

— Phil Vischer (@philvischer) March 10, 2025

Estimated savings from killing PEPFAR: 0.08% of the federal budget.
Estimated impact: 1 million unnecessary deaths per year. 1400 additional babies born with AIDS… every day.https://t.co/MahOrSATBd

— Phil Vischer (@philvischer) March 9, 2025

American Christians win a political victory. As a result, children lose access to food. AIDS patients lose access to medicine. Migrants are mistreated. Allies are abandoned. Dictators overjoyed.

My brothers and sisters, this should not be.

— Phil Vischer (@philvischer) March 8, 2025

Tony asks for prayer:

Will you pray?
Russia has rejected a U.S. negotiated ceasefire for the war in Ukraine as hostilities continue between the two countries. The Middle East remains in turmoil and this week the U.S. House held a hearing on the plight of persecuted Christians and others in Nigeria.

— Tony Perkins (@tperkins) March 13, 2025

Trump’s White House Faith Office is run by Jenny Korn:

GOD & PRAYING WITH @POTUS

That was the simple agenda when asked by the media what we were doing in the Oval Office & what was our agenda?

Prayer is welcome back in @WhiteHouse

People of faith have every right, like all other Americans, to have a voice in their government.

I was moved today at the West Wing by the stories of the 23 families from Israel with hostages still in Gaza. Grateful for Paula White-Cain and the wonderful work the White House Faith Office is doing in Washington. Thank you @RealDonaldTrump for standing with Israel. Please pray

James Robison quotes Thomas Paine:

In order to stop the slide and correct our nation’s course, all who have legitimate concerns must learn to work together in supernatural harmony, unity and commitment. Thomas Paine is still right: “It is not in numbers but in unity that our great strength lies.”

— James Robison (@revjamesrobison) March 14, 2025

Franklin Graham was on the phone with Zelenskyy:

Today I spoke with Ukraine’s President @ZelenskyyUa. I urged him to call for a national day of prayer at this critical time. I would encourage this not only for the people of Ukraine, but also for the people of Russia and around the world—that the church of Jesus Christ stand

And this:

I’m thankful that the US is helping peace talks between Ukraine and Russia move forward. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz told reporters, "We've gone from IF this war is going to end to HOW this war is going to end.” Continue to pray for an end to this conflict and bloodshed.

Shane is offering another way to think about evangelical politics:

Tonight’s execution in Texas has been cancelled!

Andrew has some thoughts for Gavin Newsom:

Hey @GavinNewsom, you need to have an evangelical and social conservative on your podcast to have a good faith conversation on all the issues where you’d disagree so you can hear the other perspective. I can recommend names!

Beware the schemes of the Democrats:

Too many Christians are gullible to the schemes of the democrats because

THEY DON’T KNOW THE BIBLE!

They exchange biblical justice & mercy for toxic empathy charged with Marxism and the secular progressive agenda.
