Trump’s “bronana republic”

John Fea   |  March 7, 2025

Dennis Jett is a former American ambassador to Peru and Mozambique. He teaches international affairs at Penn State University. Here is a taste of his recent op-ed at The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

…Perhaps the strongest case can be made, however, is that America has become a banana republic.

Those countries have an authoritarian president, a compliant legislature, and a judicial system where the judges at the top rule in his favor. Many in the media are shills and generals and high officials are chosen solely based on their loyalty to the leader.

No one takes a banana republic seriously, except its neighbors who suffer due to their proximity. Because of its erratic leader, such a country would not have a leadership position among serious nations.

The only problem is the U.S. grows almost no tropical fruit for export.

So, given that a small group of tech billionaires now run the government and the economy, perhaps the best description of America today is a bronana republic.

Perhaps, at 79- Mr. Jett is more Leftist -Myopic – than Retinal blind. He is blind, nevertheless.

When his 3-year Senior JB got installed in his 2020 Regime, Bananas and all groceries were way more affordable, as well gasoline and almost everything else.

I speak of the “Economy Stupid- Mr. Jett, speaks of the Presidency and Fed control under Prez. DJT, of course he does, he loves Leftist regimes, just not Conservative.

I’ll take the less expensive Bananas of 2019 and the Banana-republic of 2025 over the 2020 version any day.
