How dare this demonic “priestess” speak truth to Trump! (And other things evangelicals are saying in the wake of the inauguration).

  |  January 21, 2025

Via CNN

Today at the Service of Prayer for the Nation at the Washington Cathedral, the Right Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, confronted Donald Trump about immigrants. Watch:

By the way: This is what speaking truth to power looks like. From all reports, Trump did not like the bishop’s sermon.

Neither did Franklin Graham:

1. Rev. Franklin Graham was on Todd Starnes' podcast today to talk Budde's sermon to Trump.

He insists the Cathedral is "taken over by gay activists," and argues Trump's focus is only "illegal immigration" — but Trump has halted the refugee program, which IS legal immigration.

— Jack Jenkins (@jackmjenkins) January 22, 2025

Jentezen didn’t like it either:

I was there today and this was disrespectful and dishonoring. The pulpit should not be used to attack a leader who was kind enough to ask you to pray for him. It’s always right to show honor to a leader especially when he’s with his family and grandchildren. Choose Honor! pic.twitter.com/rayKmgWozm

— Jentezen Franklin (@Jentezen) January 21, 2025

Neither did Johnnie Moore, the guy who organized the court evangelicals during Trump’s first term:

Here’s an uncomfortable fact that progressive Christian leaders refuse to acknowledge: America’s broken immigration system & open southern border are not only a national security crisis they are also the world’s greatest engine of human trafficking, including the trafficking of…

An “apostate priestess” and “false teacher:

We need the president to be exhorted to put his faith in Christ alone for salvation.

We don’t need him to be led away from Christ by an apostate priestess usurping the pastoral office.

— Denny Burk (@DennyBurk) January 21, 2025

The preacher admonishing the president is a false teacher who has no authority or right to speak in the name of Jesus.

Be warned. This is not John the Baptist confronting Herod. This is a hidden reef in the church’s love feast (Jude 12).

Be warned.

Tony Perkins saw American decline in the pulpit, not the pew:

The cause of America’s decline was not what was sitting in the pew but what was standing behind the pulpit. What we heard today was not a prophetic voice from the church, but rather pathetic.pic.twitter.com/OSA9fAQMtI

— Tony Perkins (@tperkins) January 21, 2025

Robert Jeffress sensed palpable disgust:

Attended national prayer service today at the Washington National Cathedral during which Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde insulted rather than encouraged our great president @realDonaldTrump. There was palpable disgust in the audience with her words. @POTUS

— Dr. Robert Jeffress (@robertjeffress) January 21, 2025

David Brody of the Christian Broadcasting Network:

Utterly shameful. https://t.co/3dapKtRfZM

— David Brody (@DBrodyReports) January 22, 2025

Charlie wasn’t happy:

Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde is the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. She's the first woman to hold the position.

She was given a great honor today, a chance to unify America around a Christian message at the dawn of a new administration. Instead, she disgraced… pic.twitter.com/IFA6a3nZno

Lance Wallnau has thoughts on the ceremony:

Leave it to a DEI female Bishop to lecture Trump on how he is scaring so many transgender children. Who set this up? Some traditions need to be WHACKED. Someone saw this train wreck coming. Insist on flying in an inner city Holy Ghost revival choir and let 5 white, hispanic and… https://t.co/KKBr9pa2W1

— Lance Wallnau (@lancewallnau) January 22, 2025

Andrew Walker finds solidarity with J.D. Vance. (For the record, the the bishop’s remarks fit squarely within Catholic social teaching and Vance is a Catholic):

He's all of us right now.

pic.twitter.com/k1mkz8It7o

— Andrew T. Walker (@andrewtwalk) January 21, 2025

Forget about the bishop’s words, can you believe she is a woman saying these things?:

The very fact she is a woman holding this position is grounded in the liberal theology that she is declaring. https://t.co/8yGSQAhhAF

— Andrew T. Walker (@andrewtwalk) January 21, 2025

Walker is not the only one going with the “she’s a woman” angle:

Women's ordination is a cancer that unleashes untethered empathy in the church (and spills over into society). https://t.co/ScdsZET3dm

— Joe Rigney (@joe_rigney) January 21, 2025

Tom Buck too:

What should be most troubling to you is that this woman “pastor” insulted our Lord and Savior by teaching Scripture and exercising authority over a man. https://t.co/W21oObqZf5

— Tom Buck (Five Point Buck) (@TomBuck) January 21, 2025

Buck says Paula White is no better:

Pray that God will bring more people into the life of @POTUS who will present the biblical Gospel to him and protect him from false teachers like this.

Furthermore, politics aside, Paula White is no better than this woman. And Paula may be worse because more true Christians are… https://t.co/Mtyfp8PeyH

The court evangelicals 2.0 prayed for Trump after the service:

Before we walked out of the National Cathedral today, we stood boldly praying for God to bless President Trump and to bring revival in America. pic.twitter.com/PbSxbmqCJE

A stand-up comic and worship leader:

Without even checking, I'm going to guess this Bishop is Episcopalian. If gay, lesbian, trans kids are now afraid for their lives, that is more of an indicator of their mental and emotional stability than of an EO that bans boys from playing in girls sports and that reasserts… https://t.co/UVS3m404CK

Sean and Pete:

“So Sean, what do you think about doing worship at the Pentagon?”@PeteHegseth today at church. It just keeps getting better and better! 🔥🙏🏽🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/HrnwAWlD08

— Sean Feucht (@seanfeucht) January 21, 2025

The bishop is apparently a demon:

“And no wonder, Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.”

Satan should really up his game here😂 pic.twitter.com/LTKhiugzzS

“This was not a church service”:

Time to break wokeness off the church of America! 🙏🏽🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/9J6xAh6rhY

Revival Season:

IT’S REVIVAL SEASON IN AMERICA!!

The “priestess”:

Today is a day of celebration and thanksgiving for people of faith across the country. God is blessing America through President Trump. Sadly, the priestess this morning missed it.

They should let Christians preach next time.

— Sean Feucht (@seanfeucht) January 21, 2025

Josh Hawley has thoughts:

Transgender children “fear for their lives” – because of Trump? Hahaha. If she wanted to speak truth to power, this priest should have called out the child abusers who want to permanently sterilize and butcher children in the name of “gender affirming care” https://t.co/WZtcPs9rq7

— Josh Hawley (@HawleyMO) January 21, 2025

Sean cancels in Jesus name:

This is wokest church I’ve ever been to in my life!!!

I cancel every word of Mariann Edgar Budde in Jesus name!!

We are going to have a REAL Born-again, faith filled church service after this mess!

JESUS IS ALIVE AND ITS REVIVAL TIME IN AMERICA!!!

— Sean Feucht (@seanfeucht) January 21, 2025

Megan is also not happy:

What you need to understand is that the left-wing infiltration into churches has for decades been organized & well funded by secular foundations intent on hollowing out their spiritual doctrines & replacing them with political programs this is the fruit. pic.twitter.com/4kG7S5BU2r

— Megan Basham (@megbasham) January 21, 2025

The person giving the sermon was Bishop Marriann Edgar Budde:

Albert Mohler, a Trump voter and supporter, seems concerned about Trump’s executive orders. Does Mohler want some of these orders to be embedded in law?:

"There is a limit to what any president can do by force of will or executive order. A lasting movement requires lasting legislation. Bold and disciplined action will be required if President Trump’s promises are to turn into historic change."

— Albert Mohler (@albertmohler) January 21, 2025

Mohler has plans for the Republican Party and he hopes Trump will deliver:

“My hope is that President Trump redefines the Republican Party as a movement away from progressivism and toward a principled conservatism—

— Albert Mohler (@albertmohler) January 21, 2025

We need more about the sanctity of human life, but we also need candid in-your-face truths such as President Trump’s declaration in his inaugural address that there are two and only two sexes.”

— Albert Mohler (@albertmohler) January 21, 2025

Mohler is also excited about the Winston Churchill bust:

Welcome back to the White House, Sir Winston. It’s about time. May your example of courage and conviction serve as guide and inspiration to President Trump. And remember, you have nothing to hide from the President of the United States. (Look it up) https://t.co/eckTPjrgkP

— Albert Mohler (@albertmohler) January 21, 2025

Owen Strachan agrees with Mohler:

Dr. Mohler is right, entirely right, about the significance of this act. For my part, I think this might be the single most symbolic action yet taken by President Trump. https://t.co/U8RhiWRPH3

Greg Laurie is hopeful. Here is a taste of his piece at The Christian Post:

It’s a new day for America. We have a new president and administration.
Many are optimistic and hopeful, and I share that outlook.

Americans are tired of the woke ideology that has been forced on them for the last 4 years, and rightly so. Many are hoping our best days are ahead… pic.twitter.com/NqsRkR0rUi

It is worth noting that Laurie’s has been preaching the links between national and spiritual revival for a long time. I wrote about him here.

Laurie is happy for Marco. He met him ten years ago and they became friends:

Congratulations to @marcorubio for being confirme as our new a new Secretary Of State!@cathelaurie and I first met @senatormarcorubio and Jeanette Rubio 10 years ago. Tony finds a teaching moment in the Biden pardons. No word about the Trump J6 pardons:

While I disagree with Biden’s preemptive pardons—which would appear to be a recognition of guilt—it is an illustration of what God did for us spiritually, as Paul describes in Romans 5.

"But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Tony and the Family Research Council are gearing-up for the first 100 days:

Lance is no fan of the Pope:

Pope says Trumps deportation plans are a “disgrace.” Now you know why Trump picked Francis critic Brian Burch to be the next U.S. ambassador to the Vatican. Burch, co-founder of the lay Catholic advocacy group CatholicVote, said in 2023 that Francis had sown “confusion” by…

Owen likes Trump on Israel:

As a Christian, I am so thankful for President Trump's support for Israel. (So much for taking the Jews off the Republican agenda, eh?)

Eric Metaxas, a court evangelical from 2016-2021 is also a court evangelical 2.0:
