Election Day was six days ago. What are evangelicals saying?

John Fea   |  November 11, 2024

Pastor Greg Locke

Shane Idleman, the pastor of Westside Christian Fellowship in Lancaster, California, has some advice for Donald Trump about the border:

Everyone agrees that illegal immigration is one of the biggest challenges facing us today. In an attempt to secure more votes, the Democrats have destroyed our nation leaving us wide open for terrorist attacks.

When an airplane loses cabin pressure, parents put on their oxygen masks first so they can then assist their child. This isn’t selfishness; it’s wisdom. In the same way, the president of the United States is to put the safety of the American people first. But the key is striking a balance between security and compassion.Being from a border state, I’d like to recommend a few things in regard to deportation. I’m not naïve; I know that all ideas have flaws, but we need to begin the conversation so we can hit the ground running in 2025.

1. Use a lie detector and/or AI technology to gauge intent as well as affiliation with any gangs.

2. Determine if it is a family who truly needs assistance or if it is a young man who might pose a security threat.

3. Can they provide three legit references including a church reference? And are they willing to learn English within two years?

4. There must be a plan in place for employment, not free handouts.

5. Streamline the process of becoming a citizen for those who are doing it correctly and legally.

6. As a venting process for some, consider allowing churches to act as sponsors for those who qualify to stay. This would also add an extra layer of accountability and offer a level of hope.

Albert Mohler is happy that Trump won, but concerned about the pro-life movement:

As someone who has been fighting for the pro-life cause in the United States for my entire adult lifetime, this is a very sad place to be. At the same time, we do have to understand that we didn’t join this as a cause because we care about abortion as an issue. We joined this as a cause because we believe that the sanctity and dignity of human life is a moral priority. It’s not an issue that we believe in. It is a truth that we recognize and a truth we must defend.

We’re about to find out who are the fair-weather friends of the pro-life movement because they’re going to fly away very quickly when you look at numbers like these. I think that’s just going to be a reality. Those of us in the pro-life movement are going to have to face for some time. I will go further and say this is going to be a true test for Christian institutions, Christian denominations, and Christian congregations because when it comes to something as basic as when human life begins and whether or not we have an absolute responsibility and divine mandate to protect that unborn human life, if you have a split on that, it’s very hard to know how you could handle that within a single congregation, how you could handle that within a single denomination or a Christian institution. We’re talking about life and death here. Let’s just say, that is not an unnatural dividing line.

Let’s see what is happening on X:

Christianity Today is hardly progressive. You do not have to be progressive to realize that Charlie Kirk and Turning Point USA is a problem:

Christianity Today is garbage. https://t.co/KTl8ct9HC2

Mitch McConnell is a “sneaky demon”:

Y’all better watch Mitch McConnell. He’s a sneaky demon. He’s trying to do some real shady and corrupt tactics to block the Trump Administration.

The Lord is bringing back order:

The LORD is bringing order back to the White House and bringing the supernatural back to God’s House.

Climate change denial continues:

This is one of the primary reasons why I voted for Trump. https://t.co/YlQ0IoU3CO

Kamala Harris did not try to find any common ground with evangelicals, but this is a bit over the top:

Literally every facet of Kamala’s professional life and policy and campaign mocks Jesus.

It wasn’t a one-time thing. Voters saw that. https://t.co/m5z5Xnh0Vm

Lance and Tucker are “melting down”:

Charlie Kirk will be at a megachurch near you this weekend:

Say a prayer of thanks to GOD today for our great victory this week.

Eric Metaxas has still not accepted the results of the 2020 election:

WATCH! All who refuse to accept the clear voters' choice of Trump will now PROVE they don't care a fig for democracy — but simply repeated that idea as A BRAZEN LIE only because they thought it might derail Trump being elected. Now we will see out who is ACTUALLY for democracy. pic.twitter.com/0Wg2Xq6GHC

Eric and Mark on the “work” that needs to be done in taking over the culture:

PRECISELY. We have work to do. Praise the Lord we get to do it! https://t.co/lFNlKCjUy9

— Eric Metaxas (@ericmetaxas) November 10, 2024

I think they should change Godwin’s law to Metaxas’s law:

If you wonder how it was possible for millions of Germans to be convinced that the Jews were EVIL that must be wiped out, just listen to the rhetoric from the left about those who voted for Trump. They are totally CONVINCED of things that aren't true. PRAY. pic.twitter.com/9mwr546tH8

— Eric Metaxas (@ericmetaxas) November 10, 2024

“With Goebbels” (see previous tweet):

There has NEVER been a worse race-baiter than Joy Reid. She's up there with Goebbels in inciting people to hate other people. Goebbels always made it sound like the Jews were the guilty ones in order to make people hate Jews. It works. Pray for the nation. https://t.co/Npvui8sFqT

Johnnie Moore is “speaking courageously.” Voting for Trump is an “act of love”:

Indeed, America is already coming back.

Paula is praying:

Keep praying …. Pray for wisdom, discernment and clarity as President Trump chooses his staff! Pray for restoration, prosperity for all people, and pray for favor with world leaders!🙏🏻 pic.twitter.com/c3VaRmC0lz

Shane offers a Turkish proverb:

— Shane Claiborne (@ShaneClaiborne) November 10, 2024

“With all due respect” AND “pathological lunacy” AND calling himself to his “better angels.” Now that’s a lot to take in in one tweet:

The statement below comes from someone considered to be a responsible national figure. With all due respect, responses like this are descending into pathological lunacy. These sentiments are as deeply anti-democratic as the accusations they lob against the other side. We cannot… https://t.co/v7WijHqpYd

“An incredible week.” The folks at Liberty University do not see through a glass darkly. They know which side God was on:

Wherever you are this morning, give thanks to the Lord for this incredible week. Our nation was given mercy. The Lord did that.

“The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.”

Psalm 103:8
