This post is both a travel update and some personal and professional news.
I will be in Wisconsin this week for a retreat with the staff and fellows of newly formed Lumen Center for the Study of Christianity and Culture. The Lumen Center is a community of scholars committed to deepening the dialogue between Christian thought and the academic disciplines through scholarship and public engagement.
Here is a snippet from the Lumen Center website:
The Lumen Center is a hybrid of a research institute, a think tank, and a center for study. Our fellows specialize in writing and engaging the public through a variety of mediums and venues. They are recognized contributors to their fields of expertise while also representing Christian perspectives in interdisciplinary and university community settings. Collectively, our work seeks to benefit both the church and the university.
- For the benefit of the church through rigorous and academically-informed research that speaks to contemporary Christian challenges.
- For the benefit of the university through research that brings the resources of the Christian intellectual tradition to bear on contemporary academic conversations.
Alongside writing and public engagement, the Lumen Center hosts the annual Dallas A. Willard Lecture and works alongside other Stephen & Laurel Brown Foundation initiatives to offer courses, learning communities, and symposia advancing the study of Christianity and culture at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and beyond.
This academic year I am serving as a Distinguished (non-residential) Fellow in history. Next year I will be taking a leave of absence from Messiah University and moving to Madison to take-up work full-time at the Center.
I am excited about this opportunity and so thankful to the good folks at the Lumen Center for inviting me to join their vibrant community! Stay tuned.
Will you still keep up your writing here?
My old PhD haunt. And I know a few of the people at Lumen, should be fun!
Godspeed! This sounds like it is right down your ally. Blessings!
