Ramaswamy: Vote GOP. We support gay marriage and don’t want to ban abortion.

John Fea   |  July 19, 2024

Former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) got into it this week on X.

Young people don’t take well to bigoted leaders who attack LGBTQ+ rights, outlaw abortion, cozy up to gun manufacturers + oil execs, and support a rapist for President.

If you want to be cool so badly, try giving a damn about other people beyond yourself. Might open a few doors. https://t.co/KSWkw1Rbnb

Ramaswamy responded this way:

Here’s a reality check, @AOC: the GOP platform does NOT oppose gay marriage & does NOT support a federal abortion ban. What will the Christian Right think about these claims? Is the GOP now the party of gay marriage and pro-choice? (Folks at First Things magazine are asking this question).

Ramaswamy took this up again with Megyn Kelly:

Listen to @VivekGRamaswamy reassure young liberal voters that they can vote Republican because the GOP no longer opposes gay marriage and no longer supports a federal ban on abortion.

This is a watershed moment. Social conservatism has been marginalized within the GOP. Their… pic.twitter.com/ZT3v908YbW

As I’ve said multiple times here, the Christian Right is in a tough spot right now. They will certainly vote for Trump in November, but in doing say they will support a party that believes people in the states can choose to “kill babies.” Most people live in blue (liberal and pro-choice) states. Sure, Kristi Noem can ban abortion in South Dakota, but this will do little to curb the number of abortions in America.

The Christian Right is also supporting a party that does not believe marriage is between “one man and one women.” As we saw from our post earlier today, many are not happy with the way the GOP is moving under Trump. Many will remain quiet about it and continue to claim that Trump is God’s anointed one.
