Boston Seminar: Day 2

  |  June 26, 2024

I came prepared for touring Boston (Photo by Clabe Stone)

If you missed the Day 1 summary get up to speed here.

Day 2 of the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History/Wilderness Education Project trip to Boston with Roanoke, VA-area teachers was packed with educational opportunities. We started out at the State House with the good people at Revolutionary Spaces. They took us on a Boston Massacre tour and a “Slavery and Resistance” tour of revolutionary Boston. If you get a chance to visit Boston, I highly recommend the Revolutionary Spaces tours. They are outstanding.

After a great lunch in Boston’s “Little Italy” we visited the Paul Revere House and took a tour of Revere’s North End neighborhood. I learned a lot of new things about Revere’s post-revolutionary life from our guide.

We ended the day at Fenway Park to see a Red Sox loss to the Blue Jays.

Here are some pics:

Teachers learning about Phillis Wheatley in Old South Church. Our tour guide Monica was excellent
Teachers love cemeteries. In this pic they are getting photos at Granary Burial Ground. Samuel Adams, Crispus Attucks, Paul Revere, John Hancock, and Ben Franklin’s parents are all buried here.
Many of Boston most prominent 18th century citizens enjoyed summer evenings at Fenway Park. (Just kidding)
