Trump supporters–including Eric Metaxas and Todd Starnes–compare his felony convictions to a “lynching”

John Fea   |  May 31, 2024

Kristina Karama, former chair of the Michigan Republican Party, said that “we witnessed the political lynching of Donald Trump today.” She was not the only one. Evangelicals Eric Metaxas and Todd Starnes also played the lynching card in the wake of Trump’s felony convictions.

One should think twice about using this term in light of its historical meaning. I find it interesting that Trump conservatives want everyone to know about the original revolutionary-era meaning of the Pine Tree Flag (“An Appeal to Heaven”), but don’t have the same historical sensitivity about the historical use of the term “lynching.”

Eric Metaxas:

Because it has nothing to do w/real justice or the rule of law, yesterday's "verdict" is like a lynching. So if this is the kind of "justice" you approve of, you are with the mob. Just so you know.

So?

During the Trump trial:

-Bragg used a legal theory that even most liberal legal experts agreed was complete horseshit

-The trial was a complete sham with a lynching jury and a corrupt judge

-Trump had his rights completely violated throughout the entire process

World News Daily: “The New York trial of Donald J. Trump is a public lynching. Lady Justice never entered the courtroom. She was not even in the building. And the worst awaits us all.”

This statement from anti-Trump Susan Collins just reiterates that no matter how many times the media & Dems repeat the term “convicted felon” or “nobody is above the law,” this case is so flagrantly unjust that the whole world knows Trump is the victim of a lynching.

An unjust system and a cultural lynching. Historically … that's just Democrats being Democrats.#Trump https://t.co/f9xL1blXvC

This is the man responsible for politically lynching President Trump. Remember that on Election Day. pic.twitter.com/Q013k6vA43

The Democrat party, history of slavery, segregation, Jim Crow, or still following their justice system of lynching people whether they're guilty or not. This was demonstrated today when Trump was convicted of 34 counts without true basis.

I respect impartial juries fairly representative of the defendant's community, a right that stems from the Magna Carta. Trump's jury was a lynching jury deserving neither respect nor deference. https://t.co/rbRp8GwMBh

I will stand with Donald Trump and support him as he wins the Presidency in 2024.

This wasn't a trial.
