Vivek Ramaswamy’s does a nice job articulating a basic conservative message, but as a Hindu he’ll have a hard time resonating with the Christian Right

John Fea   |  June 24, 2023

Businessman and author Vivek Ramaswamy spoke at Ralph Reed’s “Road to Majority” conference. The director of the Georgia Faith & Freedom Coalition introduced him by saying that he was responsible for removing Don Lemon from CNN.

Ramaswamy says that he is the first millennial to run for president as a Republican.

Watch:

Ramswamy is very articulate, but I see nothing in his candidacy that separates him from the other GOP candidates. His Hinduism is going to be a problem with Christian Right voters. It is clear from his speech at Road to Majority that he does not connect on a religious level with those in attendance. He mentions God, but he never mentions Jesus Christ. He says this country is founded on a “path to truth.” He does not say that it was founded on Judeo-Christian principles. If he has any chance among evangelicals he is going to need a big endorsement from an evangelical leader. Frankly, I don’t see that happening.
