Avelda King is Martin Luther King Jr.’s niece, outspoken leader of the Christian Right, and Trump court evangelical. Watch her speech at Ralph Reed’s “Road to Majority 2023” conference today:
A few comments:
King believes she is an officer in spiritual war for control the United States. She starts-off her speech by saying, “Welcome to tell the truth and shame the devil day.” I assume the “devil” is the Democratic Party and the so-called “Left.” Later in the speech she says, “For our battle is not with flesh and blood, we face a spiritual battle in this nation today and spiritual battles must be fought in every generation, every decade, on every platform, on our knees and on our feet, through the power and leadership of the Holy Spirit.”
Here is King on Christian America:
Sadly, we have heard a lot of people talking recently, erroneously, reporting that America is no longer a Christian nation. What malarkey! The Body of Jesus Christ still lives and breathes in us and in our nation…We are here today to clearly proclaim that Christianity is alive in America. Look around you. See all the people of faith who are gathered in this room today boldly fighting for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. As long as there are believers in this country, America will be a Christian nation.
This get applause from the crowd, but I don’t think anyone is denying that most Americans are Christians or that Christianity is no longer practiced in America. We do, however, have a lot of good data to suggest that Christianity is on the decline in America.
Much of Alveda King’s speech focused on the injustice of abortion. Invoking her uncle’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail, she argued that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” The Supreme Court may have overturned Roe v. Wade, but if this conference is any indication the Christian Right is not done with the fight.
It is worth noting that the Road to Majority 2023 began with three African-American speakers: Pastor John Amanchukwu, Florida congressman Byron Donalds, and King.
