Evangelical author and radio host Eric Metaxas remains in the tank for Donald Trump. Over the last seven or eight years he has been one of the most vocal court evangelicals.
Here is a snippet from a recent conversation on his radio program.
DeSantis is great but lets be clear: I’m big on loyalty and Trump is huge on loyalty…DeSantis would have never become governor of Florida if not for Trump carrying over the line–that’s a fact. So it seems to be because of his age he [DeSantis] ought to be more deferential to Trump and understand that he‘ll get his chance. This is Trump’s time. The reason they’re attacking Trump like this [is because]…they are scared to death of Donald Trump. Why? Because Donald Trump represents “we the people”…and they’re scared to death of him. Is Trump coachable? No. He doesn’t seem very coachable. And that’s the problem when you’re as good and as successful as–and this is like a life lesson to all of us–when you’re really great at something you tend to say “It’s worked for me up until know so everybody shut-up and let me do my thing. Well, look, Trump is a human being, he’s made mistakes, he makes mistakes. I think the unbridled way in he goes after folks like DeSantis can be unwise. I think he deputizes people. He has some paid consultant (its not Roger Stone, I love Roger Stone)…who’s out there saying nasty things about some people. And I think that hurts Trump quite frankly, but the fact of the matter is Trump is the man. Warts and all he is dramatically better than anybody else. And I think if you get sideways of him, he doesn’t know anything else but to knock you down. And so I have mixed feelings on this because sometimes he does work against himself with this, but I guess I want to say to people like DeSantis and anybody else: “Why aren’t you using whatever you have to help Trump get re-elected because they’re attacking him because they’re scared to death of him….
