

The Democratic Party will return to Chicago in 2024. It will be held from August 19-22. You can get the details from any news website, but we thought we would call your attention to previous Chicago conventions. This will be the 12th time the Democrats have come to Chicago. Their win-loss record coming out of Windy City conventions is six wins and five losses. The wins belong to Grover Cleveland (2), Franklin Delano Roosevelt (3), and Bill Clinton (1).
1864: The Democrats nominated former Civil War general George McClellan at The Amphitheatre. He won the nomination on the first ballot and then proceeded to lose the general election to Abraham Lincoln.
1884: The Democrats nominated Grover Cleveland at the Interstate Exposition Building. He won the nomination on the second ballot over Delaware Senator Thomas F. Bayard. Cleveland went on to defeat James G. Blaine in the general election.
1892: The Democrats nominated Grover Cleveland at the Wigwam. He won the nomination on the first ballot and went on to defeat Republican Benjamin Harrison and Populist James Weaver in the general election.
1896: The Democrats nominated William Jennings Bryan at the Chicago Coliseum. He won the nomination on the first ballot and lost the general election to William McKinley.
1932: The Democrats nominated Franklin Delano Roosevelt at Chicago Stadium on the fourth ballot over former New York governor and 1928 Democratic presidential candidate Al Smith and Speaker of the House John Nance Garner of Texas. (The party picked Garner as the VP candidate). Roosevelt went on to defeat Herbert Hoover in the general election.
1940: The Democrats nominated Franklin Delano Roosevelt on the first ballot at Chicago Stadium. He went on to defeat Wendell Willkie in the general election.
1944: The Democrats nominated Franklin Delano Roosevelt on the first ballot at Chicago Stadium. He went on to defeat Thomas Dewey in the general election.
1952: The Democrats nominated Adlai Stevenson at the International Amphitheatre on the third ballot over Senator Estes Kefauver (TN) and Senator Richard Russell (GA). Stevenson went on to lose the general election to Dwight D. Eisenhower.
1956: The Democrats nominated Adlai Stevenson on the first ballot at the International Amphitheatre . He went on to lose the general election to Dwight D. Eisenhower.
1968: The Democrats nominated Hubert Humphrey on the first ballot at the International Amphitheare . He went on to lose the general election to Richard Nixon.
1996: The Democrats nominated Bill Clinton at the United Center. He went to win the general election over Bob Dole.
2024: It is likely that the Democrats will nominate Joe Biden at the United Center.
