Tonight at 6:45 Donald Trump, fresh off his New York City indictment, participated on a prayer call with some of his conservative evangelical supporters. Paula White’s “National Faith Advisory Board hosted the call. I listened to it here. It looks like the court evangelicals are back with force. Here is some of what they said and prayed:
Jentezen Franklin: “It was absolutely sickening today to watch what you [Trump] went through…We are going to see a victory out of this that is beyond anything we can imagine.” Franklin prayed: “If we ever needed him, we desperately need his leadership. We know this a political battle, but it’s also a spiritual battle.”
Paula White Cain was next. She said that she has “walked with this great man” for twenty-three years. She described Trump as a “great father, husband, boss, businessman, golfer, friend, entertainer, and ultimately president.” White said that Trump has “led righteously through it all.” She then introduced Trump.
Donald Trump: He started by noting his “tremendous success” with Supreme Court justices who defend “a thing called life.” He said that “we are being discriminated against as a religion, we are being discriminated against as a faith [and] we can’t let that continue.” He called the NYC indictment today “a fake investigation by radical left people who hate our country.” Trump said that the phone line is “exploding” and “ATT can hardly handle it.” As he closed, he reminded everyone that he won the election in both 2016 AND 2020.
Samuel Rodriguez: He prayed: “Today’s action expose…the institutions that we once revered now stand infected with corruption, deception, malfeasance, and hatred. But we come together in the mighty name of Jesus.” He paraphrased Psalm 89:4: “In the midst of this chaos, in the midst of this pain, righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne and truth and love will always lead the way…God Almighty, protect and vindicate Donald Trump. Protect and vindicate the most pro-life, pro-religious liberty president in American history.” He concluded by saying “light will always overcome darkness.”
Matt Whitaker (Former Acting U.S. Attorney General): Called on God to “deliver justice here on earth.”
Eric Metaxas: Claimed that he was standing in front of Trump Tower as he prayed. Metaxas prayed that God “would be glorified in the circumstances of this sickening travesty of justice.” He also prayed that God would “make America great again” for his “eternal purposes in this world.”
Dave Kubal, President of Intercessors for America: Prayed that God will rise-up against the wicked and that Donald Trump “would be supported by the American people” in this indictment.
Michelle Bachmann: “We cry out now to your father on behalf of the United States of America. We cry out to you and we ask father that you would deliver us just like when your children cried out to you…when they were slaves and captives in Egypt. God, we ask you to deliver us Lord…from these chains of bondage in this country. Father, we see our president Donald J. Trump has taken the blows for America. He has taken the blows for us. And so we lift him up to you.” Bachmann went on: “Oh God, would you declare Donald J. Trump innocent. Oh father, would you free Donald Trump from his troubles and our troubles here in America. Oh Lord would you have mercy on Donald J. Trump and America and would you hear this prayer tonight from your people. How long will you let people ruin Donald J. Trump’s reputation?”
Jim Garlow: He “repents” that the the United States has sunk to such “levels of injustice” on his “watch.” He continued: “Forgive us for failing to build a firmer foundation in the culture and the legal system which would have prevented us from becoming like countries who imprison political opponents. We are a nation under discipline, maybe even under judgment for the ways we failed to live out biblical truth. We repent for this.” He also prayed for “authentic biblical justice as opposed to social justice.” Garlow thanked God that he has put an “anointing” on Donald Trump to “stand against totalitarianism whether it manifests in a nation far away or a state district attorney’s office.”
James Dobson: Asked God to “intercede on behalf of our former president Donald J. Trump.” Dobson praised Trump for the “courage” it took to put “three pro-life justices in position in the Supreme Court.” He then asked God to “restore him to influence and power” and to intervene “in New York City.”
Sean Feucht: Called it a “shameful day for the nation.” He prayed that God would “take what the enemy meant for evil in this situation, in this horrible, corrupt, disgusting, evil, demonic…case in New York.”
A few observations:
- Notice how many of these court evangelicals believe that the Democrats, District Attorney Alvin Bragg (a Sunday School teacher), and Trump’s opponents are agents of evil. Politics as spiritual warfare.
- Also notice how many of them believe that Trump is anointed by God, a president who “led righteously,” and a man with a good “reputation.”
- The following Trump court evangelicals were not on the call: Lance Wallnau, Jack Hibbs, Robert Jeffress, Ralph Reed, Gary Bauer, Johnnie Moore, Jack Graham, James Robison, Tony Perkins, and Franklin Graham.
- Surprise! There was no mention of January 6, 2021 or the fact that this New York City indictment would not have happened if Trump didn’t commit adultery with a porn star.
- Did James Dobson endorse Trump for 2024 when he said “restore him to influence and power”?
Amen to the Observations.
