John McCain’s finest moment and maybe the last moment of decency from the GOP (with a few exceptions) but I think this might be the last show of decency and courage from top GOP leadership. I suppose when you spent time in the Hanoi Hilton a few crazy GOP voters are easily dealt with. I do know I should not make fun of people – BUT – Saturday Night Live did perform a very funny skit re-creating this episode. I just can’t find it online.

Yes. As I was writing I thought about how McCain did not just remain silent or go along with this kind of thing among his supporters, but he called it out directly and specifically. This was more than just issuing a general statement. That’s what I respect about him. Of course that decision cost him, but it was the right thing to do.
