Evangelicals respond to the confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson

John Fea   |  April 7, 2022 Leave a Comment

Ketanji Brown Jackson will become the first Black woman on the Supreme Court of the United States. The Senate voted 53-47 to confirm Jackson. Republican Senators Susan Collins (ME), Lisa Murkowski (AL), and Mitt Romney (UT) voted to confirm. Today we looked at what American evangelicals were saying about the confirmation. They weren’t saying too much, but we did find some interesting material:

Except if she cannot define what a “woman” is then how will she be able to interpret the constitution?! https://t.co/It1EMShPF7

I disagree with her judicial philosophy but I celebrate the history of Judge Jackson’s appointment and am praying for wisdom and discernment as she serves on the highest court https://t.co/PkXy8AzDCU

Hearings for Ketanji Brown Jackson were the contrast between light and darkness-her brilliance, amazing life & competence, grace, moral depth & height; vs gross stupidity, racial ugliness, utter disrespect, and lust for power of moral midget men. The future to win over the past.

She was confirmed by the Senate on Thursday as the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court, in a milestone for the United States. https://t.co/GmlCJbkM5W

Two points here:

1) Judge Jackson shared no specific "judicial philosophy." So when people praise it, what do they even mean?

2) Of course she has one – it's progressive. And try as she did to hide it, we saw it on display last week in the horrific photos of dismembered babies.

Here's who betrayed the movement. Hold them accountable.https://t.co/2o5JGerbzX

Ethnicity carries a lot of weight within black ecclesiology. It always has. You're seeing that play out in the number of black pastors and leaders who are lauding the confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, despite her unbiblical stances on abortion and LGBTQ.

Based on Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s record, I believe she will consistently vote to strike down reasonable restrictions on abortion. pic.twitter.com/KD7CJQjctV

— Senator Ted Cruz (@SenTedCruz) April 7, 2022

Before the Senate confirmed Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court Thursday, Sen. Ted Cruz claimed the judge would work to “undermine the constitutional rights of Americans.”

Judge Jackson could not answer if individuals possess natural rights.

Our country was founded on that idea, it was penned in the Declaration of Independence. pic.twitter.com/d0rS4prGBb

— Senator Ted Cruz (@SenTedCruz) April 8, 2022

I believe that if she is confirmed, Judge Jackson will side with predators and sex offenders.

Her record on the bench shows she has a disturbing pattern of handing down light sentences. pic.twitter.com/FIxUkCxhlK

I voted NO on Biden’s Supreme Court nominee. pic.twitter.com/3aViHiFBpy

— James Lankford (@jameslankford) April 7, 2022

When being considered for the circuit court, Romney voted AGAINST Ketanji Brown Jackson.

After her track record of being soft on pedophiles was exposed, Romney voted FOR her.

Gross.

Here, again, is yet another example of the kind of ideological dualism that was employed by many professing evangelical Christians to justify their support of Black Lives Matter (and who are eerily quiet now). #NWWH https://t.co/NLf5g2rbxH

— Darrell B. Harrison (@D_B_Harrison) April 8, 2022

Let's hope the American people have seen enough of Biden's party to trust any of their choices moving forward. https://t.co/5R9kBie4IX

This is exhibit A of the drift in the SBC!

I guarantee that God in no way celebrates the appointment of an unrighteousness judge solely based on the color of her skin. https://t.co/qDbVpPXUos
