What is happening in Evangelical land?

Do evangelicals still care about missions?

Whitworth University history professor Aaron Griffith on why evangelicals should care about criminal justice:

“God cares about people who have been incarcerated, God cares about broken relationships & wants us [Christians] to engage with those issues ourselves.”@whitworth professor @AaronLGriffith discusses American Evangelicalism & the criminal justice system during #SecondChanceMonth pic.twitter.com/MQSneYGdOB

New Hampshire evangelicals call their state “Satan’s headquarters.”

I want a copy of this:

Evangelicals are leading the way in the support of COVID-19 vaccine religious exemptions. I helped put this conversation in historical context here. These claims of religious exemptions are relatively new in United States history.

Wheaton College theology professor Vince Bacote doing his thing!:

On the new episode of @in_all_things, I spoke with @vbacote about evangelicalism, Kuyperian Neo-Calvinism, and the entanglement of both traditions with racism. Why stay, knowing the history? Here's a bit of his answer.

More on the John MacArthur documentary about Grace Community Church’s stand against COVID-19 health restrictions.

Shane weighs in on the latest from the Trump evangelical cult:

Jesus can become a political pawn… just a means to an end. This is one of the clearest examples of using the Lord’s name in vain that I’ve ever seen. Trump-evangelicalism is a religious cult, and a heresy of the Christian faith. pic.twitter.com/t0pFSzk8NQ

More on the evangelical seminary dean killed in Ukraine.

An evangelical Vatican II?:

I’m thinking American evangelicalism needs something like it’s own Vatican II. Though it has no official pope but many vying popes, nor any centralized organization, but still: cease looking back in fear, adapt to present reality, and prepare for future hope.

A Nigerian evangelical pastor who lived in Ukraine believes Putin is “fighting for traditional values of the Christian faith.”

Tom Nichols speaks the truth:

I think a lot of churches, of various kinds, have become places for people to validate their biases and political beliefs rather than functioning as places of worship. That's not limited to one sect, but evangelicalism seems more vulnerable to it, for reasons I can only guess at.

Trump court evangelical Jack Graham appears to be getting involved in the Texas attorney general race.

Wow:

Evangelicalism has lost the thread. pic.twitter.com/Ey9ngoeCVT

Blast from the past:

Daniel K. Williams identifies five factions within evangelical higher education. They are Conservative Culture Warriors (Liberty University, Patrick Henry College); Color Blind, But Anti-Nationalist) Conservatives (Grove City College, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary); Racially Progressive Complementarians (Mississippi College, North Greenville University, and Presbyterian Church of America colleges); Gender Egalitarians (Wheaton College, Fuller Theological Seminary, Calvin University); LGBTQ Advocates (Azusa Pacific, Goshen College).

Evangelical Senator Tom Cotton suggests Ketanji Jackson Brown would defend the Nazi’s:

This is a pathetic attack from a senator who makes Ted Cruz look charismatic

Owen Strachan criticizes opponents of single-issue voters. Why? Because they “vote left.”

Darrell Harrison of the Liberty University Standing for Freedom Center is upset that he is not getting the credit he deserves:

When #BigEva elitists were falling all over themselves to lick BLM’s boots, @VirgilWlkrOMAHA and I were among the only voices within evangelicalism warning the church about who—and what—BLM truly was!

— Darrell B. Harrison (@D_B_Harrison) April 5, 2022

Mark Wingfield tackles Strachan’s claim that “God has staked everything on men.”

Mike “MyPillow Guy” Lindell links the Big Lie to the apocalypse:

NEW: Election denier Mike Lindell, set to headline a noon rally at the Colorado Capitol alongside GOP candidates, said in Grand Junction last night that the fight against election rigging is linked to the biblical apocalypse. #copolitics pic.twitter.com/lo4wzThUwZ

The Stream magazine continues to peddle a kind of soft support for Vladimir Putin.

Tony Perkins and Owen Strachan talk “deconstruction.” As defined by Strachan, “deconstruction” just seems like another name for “anti-intellectualism.” In one of the most ironic parts of this interview, Strachan criticizes people who claim to be the “arbiter” of true faith. Maybe Owen should read his Twitter feed.

Evangelicals gathered last week to discuss race and gender identity. Participants included Preston Sprinkle, Thabiti Anyabwile, Francis Chan, Jackie Hill Perry, and Derwin Gray,.

Jim Wallis was at the White House to celebrate the Affordable Care Act:

Blessed to be at the White House to celebrate ACA health care reform and now expand it to even more people that the 30 million people it dramatically included for their health and healing—a religious cause. Another hit piece in the “evangelical elites” genre.

Franklin Graham on Piers Morgan on cancel culture:

.@PiersMorgan is taking on cancel culture! I’ve been interviewed by Piers & I've always appreciated his honesty. He said, “This cancel culture phenomenon…has got to be canceled, and I see myself as leading the charge in the battle for free speech."https://t.co/zJFJYvbuK8
