John Fea   |  March 21, 2022

Ten years ago I was one of three finalists for the George Washington Book Prize

The George Washington Prize honors outstanding new works on George Washington and his times (the Revolutionary and founding eras circa 1760-1820). The $50,000 prize is sponsored by Washington College, the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, and George Washington’s Mount Vernon. This year’s finalists are:

Max M. Edling, Perfecting the Union: National and State Authority in the US Constitution

Julie Flavell, The Howe Dynasty: The Untold Story of a Military Family and the Women Behind Britain’s Wars for America

Bruce Ragsdale, Washington at the Plow: The Founding Farmer and the Question of Slavery

Jeffrey Hacker, Minds & Hearts: The Story of James Otis Jr. and Mercy Otis Warren

David O. Stewart, George Washington: The Political Rise of America’s Founding Father
