From CFH president Beth Allison Barr:
Dear CFH community,
We have not released registration for the Baylor conference because circumstances changed this week. Although Baylor University is doing well in regards to keeping COVID numbers lower, Central Texas is not. In fact, the COVID numbers have gone up alarmingly in the Waco area (see https://wacotrib.com/ and https://covidwaco.com/county/). It was strongly recommended to us by the Baylor administration that we consider postponing the October CFH conference to Spring semester or take it virtual. After consulting the conference organizers and the board, we are announcing that the CFH conference at Baylor will be postponed from October 2021 to Spring 2022.
We are already looking for a spring date and hope to announce it asap. We hope that for those who have purchased plane tickets they can simply transfer them to the new conference dates. We also plan on keeping the same program (no new call), although I am sure there will be modifications. We also can move forward with reviewing the travel award applications and award those for the new date as well. I am so grateful for Lisa Diller and Andrea Turpin for their perseverance in planning a fantastic conference program and I look forward to us finally being a part of it in Spring 2022.
One final order of business concerns my role as president. I will be stepping down as president in October and John Fea will be stepping into that role. I am honored to have served these past three years as your president, but I believe I should not serve longer than three years. Please be on the lookout for nominations for new board members as well (we extended several folk on the board for another year during COVID, and it is now time for them to rotate off). By Spring 2022 we will have an updated board roster as well as our new president John Fea.
Again, I am so sorry we had to delay the conference once again. It feels like the right thing to do given the circumstances, but I am greatly saddened to postpone once again.
Beth
