What is going on in Evangelical land?

For evangelicals, caring about refugees is a non-negotiable part of a Christian life.

Here’s the latest from the Standing for Freedom Center at Liberty University. Preaching politics is just fine, but apparently the pulpit should not be used for vaccination advocacy.

The AP recently ran an article pointing out that many ā€œBible Beltā€ preachers are staying silent on vaccinations or opposing them.

How in the world can a innercity kid, born into a poor family in the hood of south central, put himself through college, earn a law degree, a star on the Hollywood walk of fame, right best selling books and have a nationally syndicated radio show and not be a Democrat? They hate him because Larry Elder succeeded and he is radically pro life, and pro law enforcement and pro California and pro constitution. Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri has a new president. He has connections to Houghton College, Bethlehem Baptist Church (John Piper), Mars Hill Church in Seattle (Mark Driscoll), and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminar (Albert Molher). An interesting vita to say the least.

These Phil Vischer tweets explain a lot about Newsweek. But to be fair, Newsweek also publishes A LOT of anti-Christian Right stuff.

1. The premise. "Liberal Christians" (Christians with progressive political values?) should support this conservative candidate – because he is Black. Never mind his policies, he is Black and so they should support him.

Newsweek and the Christian Post are owned by the same man – a reclusive and somewhat controversial Korean pastor. So Newsweek is picking up bizarre stories from its sister publication – the Christian Post – and taking the same angle on those stories that CP took.

Gary Bauer continues to defend the unvaccinated. From his FB page:

President Biden isn’t the only one attacking the American people instead of our enemies. While Biden was attacking the unvaccinated, Mayor Bill de Blasio was doing the same thing in New York City. De Blasio has been clear that he intends to make life miserable for anyone who is not vaccinated. To enforce his mandate, he’s threatening to fine businesses $5,000 for serving unvaccinated people. Inconveniently for de Blasio, it was just confirmed that only 58% of New York City’s public employees are vaccinated. Major public unions are fighting de Blasio’s mandate. Many New York City public school teachers and employees of public safety agencies are still unvaccinated.

Overwhelmingly, these folks are life-long Democrats. That’s why they’re working for the city of New York. Yet more than 40% of them are refusing to take the vaccine. That’s got nothing to do with Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis or Greg Abbott.
