What is going on in Evangelicalland?
It looks like white evangelical support for Trump was actually higher in 2020 than 2016.
An InterVarsity director leaves evangelicalism. But I am unsure what he is leaving apart from a label.
Philosopher Jamie Smith:
I think we now need a book distinguishing between toxic masculinity and men who just want to study Protestant theology and defend their Christian faith.
A new film on conversion therapy. Was Warren Throckmorton a consultant? More here.
First Baptist-Dallas last Sunday. There was also a sermon (if you could call it that):
Ed Stetzer is leaving Christianity Today
I agree with Robison and Burke. Many of us tried to do this during the presidential administration in power from 2017-2021:
Franklin Graham and his team doing good work in Surfside:
Chris Gehrz offers some historical context on evangelicals and the death penalty
Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ) and critical race theory.
Jack Hibbs is baptizing people. I know some might be offended by this observation, but after watching Hibbs and his ministry closely over the last year or so I am left wondering what he is baptizing them into:
Didn’t Donald Trump label people all the time with opinions and lies?
The future of the Southern Baptist Convention probably relies more on the future of the Republican party than on theology or matters internal to the denomination.
Rick Warren’s level of charismatic authority does not transfer easily. Randall Balmer writes about replacing Warren at Saddleback Church.
Blast from the past:
The Presbyterian Church in America is meeting this week. Here are some tweets:
Presbyterians packing. I hope there is not a toddler sitting behind this guy.
That’s a lot of white guys:
The Presbyterian Church of America has a “Dream Team”:
Seen at the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America. I am sure DG Hart will have something to say about this:
Love to see kids reading, but don’t they know that they are reading in the presence of church historian and Beeson Divinity School dean Doug Sweeney?
Sexual ethics were on the table:
Tim Keller has some words for the group:
Tony Perkins calls his mini-Bible studies on Facebook. “devotional thoughts.” I’ve been watching these. They are more “cultural war thoughts.” They have little to do with spirituality. In today’s episode, Perkins uses Matthew 22-23 to attack activist courts. Thanks, Tony. Your “devotional thought” brought me closer to God. 🙁 :
Ted Cruz vs. Kristin Kobes Du Mez. Is Braveheart a sadomasochistic fantasy?
Evangelicals are trying to figure out how to reach evangelical conspiracy theorists.
Good advice from David Brody at the Faith and Freedom Coalition gathering last weekend:
Mike Pence is promoting Greg Laurie’s book about Billy Graham:
“If you are a follower of Jesus, you’re a follower of a refugee“
Evangelicals doing good work on the fight against pollution.
Liberty University is hosting a men’s conference:

Owen Strachan, Voddie Baucham, Charlie Kirk, and Eric Metaxas distinguish “biblical justice” from “social justice.” Strachan introduces Kirk as “young [William F.] Buckley.” If Kirk says that people concerned about “social justice” want to overturn “power structures” and “deconstruct the civilization that we know.” Social justice should thus be condemned because it will always lead to “totalitarianism.” Based on this definition, those who wanted to overturn the “power structures” and “deconstruct the civilization” of the antebellum South were social justice warriors who must be condemned. The Radical Republicans were totalitarians, just like the defeated South said that they were. I almost laughed out loud when Kirk warns about a “sociopathic narcissist” who will “charm” people to follow him.
Kirk also takes a shot at Wheaton College, Calvin College, and Hope College.

Tag team golf match: Jack Graham and O.S. Hawkins vs. J. Frank Norris and John R. Rice. Just be careful Jack and O.S., Norris doesn’t play fair:
