On Saturday night I published a post on the Trump evangelical response to the former president’s speech at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference. You can read it here. Let’s check-in on them today:
The Liberty University Falkirk Center crowd is staying busy.
I hope Congress has the good sense to replace the Equality Act with the Fairness for All Act, but I am guessing the folks at Liberty probably think the Fairness for All Act is unacceptable because it gives LGBTQ people basic civil rights.
The Falkirk Center is promoting this video from one of its fellows, Eric Metaxas. He believes that it is God’s will that everyone become an American:
Charlie Kirk, the co-founder of Liberty University’s Falkirk Center, is criticizing those on the “left” for pursuing “politics & power.”
I wouldn’t trust 5-year-olds to choose their own gender or their own reading material! :-):
I think the Falkirk Center fellows need to get their messaging straight. They are promoting an Eric Metaxas video calling on Americans to exercise virtue (see above). During the era of the American Revolution, a virtuous person, in times of crisis, sacrificed his or her own rights, wants, and desires for the public good. Pandemics, in other words, are times when the wearing of a mask or social distancing is a necessary burden one must bear to protect others.
In Letter from a Farmer in Pennsylvania (1767-1768), John Dickinson wrote that a “decay of virtue” was leading to the colonists’ loss of liberty. “A people is travelling fast to destruction,” Dickinson wrote, “when individuals consider their interests as distinct from those of the public. Such notions are fatal to their country, and to themselves. Yet how many are there…[who] earnestly endeavor to increase their own wealth, power, and credit, without the least regard for the society, under the protection of which they live….”
I don’t think Metaxas understands this meaning of virtue. (He confuses it with biblical virtue or something akin to Victorian virtue). His Falkirk Center colleague Jenna Ellis almost certainly does not understand it:
The same seems to be true for Falkirk Center director Ryan Helfenbein:
Interestingly enough, as these Liberty University Falkirk Center fellows mock mask wearing and call it “a lie,” Liberty University continues to require faculty and students to wear masks. Last month, Liberty University’s president, Jerry Prevo, apologized when the school broke COVID-19 guidelines during a campus snowball fight. An opinion writer at the student newspaper is perfectly fine with governments requiring the mask-wearing.
OK, enough Liberty University Falkirk Center stuff. Let’s move on.
Lance Wallnau is describing the Democratic agenda as a “religious crusade under the guise of equality.” He believes (along with Steve Bannon) that God is bringing a “fourth turning”–a “great awakening” that will result in a “shift in the national dialogue.” The rest of the program deals with the Equality Act:
In this video, Wallnau compares “cancel culture” and “wokeness” to the Pharisees. At one point he claims that “all men are liars.” Hmmm. Where was this claim during the Trump administration? Wallnau talks about Dr. Seuss’s anti-Fascism. What he fails to mention is that he criticized the isolationists for not doing more to stop Hitler. At one point in this video Wallnau gets nearly incoherent as he starts connecting LeBron James, Rush Limbaugh’s root canals, and the Leftist threat to America.
Samuel Rodriguez asks a question:
David Barton is very upset about losing his inalienable rights amid the COVID-19 crisis.
Robert Jeffress was on Fox News talking about Trump’s CPAC speech. He says that “in the end nobody’s going to really care about what happened on November 3, 2020 or January 6, 2021.” Interesting. I think history will have something to say about the fact that Donald Trump lost the presidential election on November 3, 2020 and the U.S. Capitol was invaded by pro-Trump insurrectionists on January 6, 2021. Future history students will “care” about these dates because they will need to take exams requiring them to identify and interpret these events. Jeffress also implies that he would support Trump again in 2024.
Gary Bauer is, well, being Gary Bauer. Here is today’s Facebook post:
My friends, our values are under assault like never before. The left controls virtually every lever of power in Washington. We are not powerless, and we are fighting back!
Will you stand with me?
We are taking a leading role here in Washington to map out strategy for the conservative comeback. We are fighting the radical left’s efforts to rewrite American history. As a former Under Secretary of Education, I have particular credibility on this issue. We are developing a list of books for all age groups so that your children and grandchildren won’t be robbed of their heritage. We are exposing the extremism of Joe Biden’s radical appointees, and organizing opposition in the Senate to their confirmations.
From shutting down our churches to forcing taxpayers to subsidize abortions, we are fighting the left’s daily assault on religious liberty and the sanctity of life. We are working with allied organizations to make election integrity and reform a top priority in the states, while fighting Nancy Pelosi’s efforts to federalize all elections.
We are working with allies from the Trump/Pence Administration to sound the alarm on Joe Biden’s border crisis and his efforts to appease Iran’s radical Islamist regime.
All of this takes resources. But we can’t do any of it without the support of friends like you!
