It's Official: Liberty University Will Now Allow Guns in the Dorms

John Fea   |  December 10, 2015 Leave a Comment

Many of you have been following Jerry Falwell Jr.’s recent comments about arming the students at Liberty University to protect them from a possible terrorist attack from “those Muslims.”  See my thoughts on this here.

According to this article at NBC News, Liberty has now lifted its ban on guns in the residence halls. At taste:
Liberty University is ending a ban on firearms in residence halls, the president of the conservative evangelical Christian school announced Wednesday.
The change in policy, said Jerry Falwell Jr., is aimed at keeping the Virginia campus safe from terrorist attacks such as the recent mass shooting in San Bernardino, California.
“I take very seriously my responsibility to keep you safe in an increasingly dangerous world,” Falwell told a crowd of several thousand students, The Washington Post reported.
Liberty University has allowed students, faculty and staff who have gun permits to carry concealed weapons since 2011. Firearms are allowed everywhere on campus except for in residence halls.
On Friday, in the wake of the San Bernardino massacre that killed 14 people, Falwell urged students to take a concealed weapon permit class that the university offers for free and legally carry their guns on campus.

Read the rest here. 18-22 year old kids can now pack heat in the Liberty dorms.  God help us.

CORRECTION:  Thanks to several sources who informed me that this only applies to students who are over the age of 21.  I made the correction earlier on Facebook, but did not update the blog.
