Not every student knows what is going on, but I am glad to see that some of these students actually know what is at stake in the study of American history.

The protest isn't about the AP US History Exam – the school district was going to create some kind of committee to oversee the curriculum with the aim of changing it and leaving out sections that included things they didn't like – civil disobedience, social strife, disregard for the law etc etc. This committee was the brain child of someone who clearly had a political or ideological agenda. If students are taught this way they probably wouldn't be able to pass the AP US history exam.
