I am not doing very well in my NCAA basketball pool, but I am doing worse with my Junto March Madness picks. I am looking forward to hearing/reading the Juntocrats analyze this year’s tournament and give us a sense of the kind of people who are voting. This definitely seems to be a scholars tournament. Most books that have crossover appeal to general audiences have been eliminated. I am thinking here of Breen, Richter, Gordon-Reed, etc…. Three out of the four finalists are university press books.
For what it’s worth, here are my Final Four picks:
Goetz over Rushforth
Holton over Jarvis
I am basically voting for the two books I have read.
Good luck.
I'm beginning to wonder if the tournament is reflecting large schools over small schools. Specifically schools with university presses over schools without them. I really just have to say I am dissatisfied with the Final Four. Of the four I've only read Holtun. All the books are certainly good books, but my favorites did not make it obviously.
I really am questioning how many voters have actually read the books in the Final Four.
