I was going to just add this as an addendum to my Osama Bin Laden post, but I thought it deserved its own post.
Well, I guess this is what sometimes happens when you are writing posts on the fly with little time to check sources. As many of you know by now, the MLK quote I used is a fake. I was duped by it after seeing it on websites from other bloggers and facebook friends who were also duped. I should know better, and I apologize to my readers. (Although I do agree with the words in the quote, whoever said it). As far as I know, the Vatican quote is legit and I would still encourage you to read the article by Gideon Strauss.
Karl Koeppen, a Lutheran pastor in Kankakee, IL, has also sent along a link to an interesting Lutheran perspective on the Bin Laden death.
Here's a link to an article from Salon about the origins of the fake quote. Apparently it was invented by Penn Jillette of Penn & Teller fame.
Why did Penn Jillette create a fake MLK quote yesterday?
