This is a fascinating map. It uses census data to show the percentage of college graduates who live in each county in the United States. And to make it even more interesting, you can trace college graduates over time, from 1940 to 2009. You can also trace by race.
After spending a bit of time with the map, it looks like the highest percentage of college graduates live in Pitkin County, Colorado, the home of Aspen (59.07%). And it looks like the lowest percentage of college graduates lives in Owlsey County, KY (4.57%).
In 1940, the place with the most college graduates was Montgomery County, MD (18.12%).
There are so many other conclusions you can draw from this map. Have at it.
I haven't done a comprehensive study, but my home town, the independent city of Falls Church, Virginia, and neighboring Arlington County are at 69.47% and 68.83%, respectively. I believe I remember reading that Falls Church had the highest percentage in the nation, but I'm not about to do the work to independently confirm that. Forget those rich ski bums … upper-middle class lawyers and government workers FTW!
