What is going on at the State Museum of Pennsylvania? According to this article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, there are 1800 artifacts missing from the State Museum and the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Lancaster County. The State Auditor General Jack Wagner attributed the losses to lax oversight and an “antiquated inventory system.”
I don’t know who is to blame for this, but I am imagining that things are only going to get worse until Pennsylvania decides to provide the funding needed to upgrade the inventory system and get things properly catalogued. The folks at the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission are doing the best they can do with limited funds.
Hmmm…perhaps I'd feel more bullish about giving them more funding if the Parable of the Talents didn't end with the master taking away the poor stewards talent and casting him into outer darkness. (-;
