I will not be in Portland for this year’s joint meeting of the National Council of Public History and American Society of Environmental History to be held March 10-14 in Portland. William Cronon from the University of Wisconsin-Madison is one of the keynoters.
But I have enjoyed looking at the pictures on the conference blog. The blog is running a series of photo posts which they are calling a “Vintage Roadside Tour.” It includes some great photos of classic Portland landmarks, including Fairley’s Pharmacy, the neon hotel signs on Interstate Avenue, and a giant Paul Bunyan. The posts even provide driving direction to get to this vintage sites. Pretty cool.
