It’s A Clean Sweep for Annette Gordon-Reed

John Fea   |  May 29, 2009 Leave a Comment

Annette Gordon-Reed has just won the $50,000 George Washington Prize for her book The Hemingses of Monticello: An American Family. She now has the Washington Prize to go with her Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award for this powerfully written account of Thomas Jefferson and the slave family with whom he became intimately involved.

The Washington Prize is one of the largest literary awards in America. It is presented as a joint effort by the C.V. Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience at Washington College, the Gilder-Lehrman Institute of American History, and the Mt. Vernon Ladies’ Association.

Congratulations!
