Today was the final day of the Conference on Faith and History meeting at Bluffton College in Bluffton, OH. After a long night, I decided to sleep through the 8am sessions, but got to the college in time to see a panel devoted to Thomas Albert (Tal) Howard’s recent book, Protestant Theology and the Making of the Modern German University (Oxford, 2006). Tal’s award-winning book is an outstanding treatment of the fate of theology in German universities. His work has serious implications for the discussion of religion and higher learning at American colleges and universities.
After saying my goodbyes to old friends and new friends, I headed off to Dayton (I am in the airport now) to catch a flight back home.
