“Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their opinions.” The latest from megachurch pastor Jack Hibbs

John Fea   |  September 1, 2021

Hibbs with California GOP gubernatorial candidate and talk show host Larry Elder

If you want to see just about everything that is wrong with American evangelicalism today watch this clip (below) from Jack Hibbs‘s Sunday sermon at Calvary Chapel-Chino Hills. Hibbs is not leading a Sunday morning worship service here, he is leading a political rally. He also does not know what he is talking about. One day some scholar or doctoral student is going to write a book or dissertation on how Donald Trump rallies influenced Sunday morning services at evangelical megachurches.

Proverbs 18:2: “Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their opinions.”

I should probably watch this entire video in order to learn how Hibbs’s remarks here are connected with his Sunday morning message on “Romans: The Gospel of Grace.”

This isn’t a church, it’s a tax-exempt club.

I think a lot of the commenters are getting this wrong… it doesn't matter if what he is saying is valid or not. This subject matter has no place in a church. It does nothing to disciple. Nothing to build up the saints. Tragic.

I'm not gonna question his salvation, but these are clearly not the actions of a Christ-follower. He's preaching a different gospel.
